    Kuribu Question(spoilers)

I was curious about what we know about Kuribu so far.

I know that it was a golem construct that the ampador magi used to combat the voidsent ,and it is animated by gemstones.(info from her TT card) Kuribu also appears in Palace of the Dead as a pomander with a female elezen body.

Her appearance in PotD made me wonder if she was someone notable and if the Ampador magi decided to make a golem in her likeness.

I think it's less "Who was Kuribu?" and more "What is a Kuribu?". The name has recurring use in so many religions it's hard to pin to any in particular, but the FF series likes to draw from various mythologies for summon and monster inspiration. Kuribu are typically depicted in the likeness of what we would commonly consider angels. They're essentially angelic guardian spirits.

If I were to guess, Kuribu are some kind of creature (I'm really tempted to link them to the elemental family but I honestly have no idea) and the Kuribu in Amdapor HM was an attempt to emulate them. That or an actual Kuribu spirit was trapped within the gemstones that animated the living statue...

I think it might stand to reason that "Kuribu" is what Hydaelyn's version of Angels are called. Of course this means the two terms are mutually exclusive and so I need to check if "angels" were mentioned in this context in the game before.

EDIT: well it appears they are. Though this doesn't preclude the Kuribu being a specific type of Angel. Of course given the respective Pomander's importance in defeating Nybeth I must also wonder if it is another reference to tactic Ogre. Which menas I must ask players of that games if Angels or beings named Kuribu are involved.

And to clear all doubts. I doubt the name was related to Yu-Gi-Oh cards or walking Mushrooms :P

From the Tactics Ogre/Ogre Battle front, angels DO exist in the cosmology and can even be recruited to your party (either by killing one of your units and turning them into one or encountering one in the "wild"), their actual lore reasons vary from game to game but they are usually sent by capital G God to take care of demons or fallen angels. I don't recall them being involved in the Hellgate or PotD plot but I could always be misremembering.

Maybe that's why we need the Podmander of Resolution to defeat Mr. Nercromancer because REFERENCES!

Actually, yeah, pretty sure the first fight with Nybeth in Tactics Ogre he summons undead endlessly and a mechanic for undead in that game is they revive after a set amount of time unless you cast an "Exorcise" spell on their corpse. I think certain other skills had the same affect on a 'stilled' Undead, and one of them was, in fact, called Heavenly Judge lol

That was also a mechanic in the Final Fantasy Tactics series. Not surprising since it was made by the same person who did Tactics Ogre. Though IS there a way to beat Nybeth in the palace if you don't have the angel podmander?

It is possible to beat Nybeth without it I assume, but it will be far more difficult because of all the adds. I think SMN/BLM/Tank/Healer might be ab;e to do it

Funny to see some of my friends react with "why an Elezen!?" when its pretty much estabilshed that Amdapor were mainly populated by Elezens (and when they fled to caves, hey Gelmorra and Duskwights). I've researched about the Kuribu word meanings but couldn't find much but stuff about Yugioh and Mario. But they're sure linked to a Amdapori symbol that the Gelmorrans may have carried with them to the depths of their caves.

As for Nybeth, with decent artherpool gear you can kill without any Resolutions because you just burn the boss really fast.

And yeah healing and "light" spells used to deal extra damage to undead on Tactitcs series and Tactics Ogre. Such as Raise had chances for insta kills.

I really need to start a thread about the tidbits we got about Gelmorra from the Lore Book but it was actually a mixed Hyur/Elezen society - hence why we find a version of the twin adder on Gelmorran ruins, that symbol is old.

Interestingly enough there's very few Hyur of Gelmorran ancestry left, the Creeping Rot plague wiped nearly all of them out, and so most Hyur in Gridania are descended from more recent arrivals and Gridanian Elezen can safely remain smug about their deeper roots.
