I'm pretty upset by the new PotD requirements. I have two friends that I can consistently play with, but our play window is very small. Finding a 4th person who is available for that limited window and is willing to only play for ~an hour per day is going to be very difficult.

PotD went from one of the most casual friendly pieces of content in the game to one of the least overnight.

You don't need a full party.

S-E has also stated time and time again that 100-200 was not meant for casual friendly stuff. It was meant to be the equal to Savage raid.

Short of having a good group being able to coordinate together, Savage raids normally don't do very well in DF. Nor are they added initially to the DF. This doesn't stray from the norm.

Kinda confused why you'd be upset to content you don't have time to do. You wouldn't be able to master a Savage raid in an hour. This amounts to the same.

You don't need a full party, but it's going to be very difficult to clear this content without one. At the very least, it will be much slower.

It just seems a very odd decision to have incredibly casual content go straight into hardcore content. It would be like saying you can buy the Fenrir mount with MGP earned from Triple Triad, but you have to beat A8S to do it. It's especially odd since this has story content, and they said with Alexander that they no longer wanted to gate any story behind hardcore-only content. I don't necessarily agree with that (I loved accessing story by beating Coils) but I wish they'd pick a side and stick with it.

    Well yes and no.

Think about it on a raiding standpoint: Technically, they could have made Alexander the same was as Coil was in 2.0. But they wanted everyone to do the story and Savage Mode was introduced as regular content for hardcore people. It follows the general guidelines that were established when they first showed off Savage for Second Coil:

    1) A group is going to go in there and not be able to simply DF it; you will need a permanent party or a Party Finder.
    2) This is not easy content nor is it casual content. This was made to test your mettle.
    3) This doesn't really go into detail with extra story. This is just harder requirements.

The only caveat to that is that Alexander introduced the higher tiered gear that you can get from Savage. This was not the case in 2.0 Savage and, to me, has caused a lot of headaches with the whole itemization level we've seen in 3.0 (That's a story for another time.)

PotD actually follows 2.0 a bit more than 3.0, with the only fact that you probably are going to get more Silver/Gold from the higher levels. You don't get extra gear, you don't get anything story wise you wouldn't get from doing only up to 100, and it's a test to see how good you are. It's like an extra set of goodies for you to do.

To me, this follows the same logic they've followed in regards to 'Savage' content. If you think about it: Alexander is pretty damn casual really. Sure, the fights were a headache, but once you figured it out, you could plow through. PotD will be the same way once people get the required gear level to flow through most of it. And even then, it'll be more challenging than the Alexander normal stuff because you will be exchanging your + number for gear when you want, which will increase the difficulty of your runs due to the lowering of stats.

I don't know. I don't have an FC that has many members that are active and 4 man content together is hard to do and I do most of my stuff in DF. This doesn't phase me in the least and I've come to accept that the Savage portion of this game won't be done. I just don't get upset about it, really.
