While we are still waiting for our orders of the lore book (Square Enix estore keeps denoting that the second batch have shipped); I wanted to ask anyone else who already has the Eorzea Encyclopedia... any mention of the Garlean Frumentarium?
For those of you who remember, Nero mentions them in one of the early cutscenes of the storyline in ARR (just before viciously dispatching the spy). Just in case anyone needs their memory juggled, refer to this cutscene.
He clearly says "frumentarium sees all", which is obviously another form of the Roman word Frumantarii.
Quick pause while I explain who they were... in ancient Roman times, the frumentarii were considered the secret intelligence of the Roman empire. Their original responsibilities as wheat collectors (a powerful cornerstone of the Roman economy) allowed them unhindered movement across the empire and thus, the military gradually started using them as spies. By Emperor Hadrian's reign, he had forged them into a huge secret service network with a very efficient courier system.
So the Frumentarium are essentially the Garlean intelligence covert ops agency. I've been eager to know if they are mentioned anywhere in the lore book, or if they are being utilized by Varis and his Legati.
Anyone who knows, please post here, thanks.
