Anything in the lore book on the Garlean "Frumentarium"?

While we are still waiting for our orders of the lore book (Square Enix estore keeps denoting that the second batch have shipped); I wanted to ask anyone else who already has the Eorzea Encyclopedia... any mention of the Garlean Frumentarium?

For those of you who remember, Nero mentions them in one of the early cutscenes of the storyline in ARR (just before viciously dispatching the spy). Just in case anyone needs their memory juggled, refer to this cutscene.

He clearly says "frumentarium sees all", which is obviously another form of the Roman word Frumantarii.

Quick pause while I explain who they were... in ancient Roman times, the frumentarii were considered the secret intelligence of the Roman empire. Their original responsibilities as wheat collectors (a powerful cornerstone of the Roman economy) allowed them unhindered movement across the empire and thus, the military gradually started using them as spies. By Emperor Hadrian's reign, he had forged them into a huge secret service network with a very efficient courier system.

So the Frumentarium are essentially the Garlean intelligence covert ops agency. I've been eager to know if they are mentioned anywhere in the lore book, or if they are being utilized by Varis and his Legati.

Anyone who knows, please post here, thanks.

That was already clear even during the game itself - you actually fight some Garlean Frumentari soldiers in Eastern Thanalan after the raid on the Waking Sands during the original 2.0 story (the player catches a unit of them sneaking around the Church of Saint Adama Landama, presumably they had been trailing the player's character after fleeing Vesper Bay for Camp Drybone).

Either way, it was clear the Frumentari were the 'spooks' of the Garlean military even long before the lore book was available based on that.

Brilliant... that was the answer I was looking for, Louvain. Thank you and a +1 as well. It also helps me shed light on why Livia's sister had the Garlean social name "Goe".

I can understand being disappointed people didn't follow your instructions to a T, but there's no need to be snide about it.

No? It sure feels that way to me...

"Wryly" looking up at his own post. Wry is a term used to express disdain, i.e. being annoyed at the situation.

"Clearly stated," suggesting Enki didn't see that he wanted information only from the lore book.

And then a sigh at the end.

Essentially only information from the lore book was welcome; anything else was not. Enki did not reference said book and was indirectly called stupid for not reading the title and/or not referencing said book in her (I think her) reply.

Eh, I find it best to just give people the benefit of the doubt and not assume the worst - especially when tone and intent don't often translate well through text alone.

This word also means understated humor or to twist.

What is the point in choosing to select the most negative interpretation of text? It doesn't benefit anyone.

Snide isn't the word I would use for the post in question.

Yup, nothing snide about it, IMO.
