May I Attribute Strength On Gladiator For Sword Oath?

Okay, so I'm fairly new to the game, though I know that Paladins are supposed to be a Tank Job, but would a DPS one work at all, or rather, would it be accepted at all?
Also, if I did build this way, when searching for Guildhests, would I still be considered a Tank by the game itself, and therefore search for parties as a Tank?
It's not something I'm terribly bothered by, I do prefer the idea of being high HP, but I was just wondering if there's an unwritten rule about having to have max HP?

VIT also effects your damage output on tanks and is the same as STR since it was changed.

As far as I know STR is only worth putting on melds when no VIT can be melded. Can also substitute a STR accessory when a VIT piece has crappy stats.

Spec Vitality on your tank because Vit and Str have an equal effect on your damage. You'll get the damage benefit plus a larger hp pool.

Ahh, okay, sorry for not knowing that Vit and Str both added to damage; What's the actual point of Strength on a character then, though, if Vit for tanks, and presumably Dex for some other classes, means more damage?

Sorry wrote it wrong earlier, A Str accessory with good secondary stats can be added when a VIT piece has crappy stats and you don't need the hp.

Each class has a primary stat: for tanks it is Vit, for ranged DPS it is Det, casters are Int etc. The reason why for tanks Vit pulls double duty is because is because it wasn't originally that way. Strength used to contribute more to tank damage while vit was only for HP. Tanks would have to have two gear sets one vit and one strength depending on if they were off or main tanking. Some tanks would only have strength sets--and strength only tanks that did not have the skills to back it up (or got paired with new healers and did not adjust for it) drove a good portion of the healer community nuts. So they changed it to make sure that tanks would stack vit.

As for your other question, you can't really play Gladiator (and later Paladin) as a DPS, since you're filling the tank role in the party and are expected to play the part. However, you can focus a lot on the DPS part while tanking, especially at the later levels when you are able to change between your defensive and offensive stance even while tanking. That said, Paladin is considered the main tank in 99% of situations in which there are 2 tanks present, and it has the lowest DPS capacity of all 3 tank classes. If you're interested in playing a more DPS oriented tank, try Warrior (starting class Marauder) or Dark Knight (can be unlocked when you get to Heavensward content at level 50). Warrior usually handles the off tank lore and has the highest DPS of all tank classes.

I wouldn't say 99% since DRK has greater priority in the MT slot even if the fight is physical favoured.

At most it's 50% of the time, since a PLD only has two combinations to work with. PLD+DRK/PLD+WAR.

Fact of the matter is the excess mitigation of Sheltron and Shield Swipes does not cover the cost of lost Reprisls, Low Blow Procs, and Blood Price.

i would not recommend to use STR gear at all anymore slince VIT effect much more on damage, for all tank class is meld priority STR->CRIT->DET->SS and only the minimum ammount on ACC and weapon damage effect as most for damage.
so basicly get always first weapon and meld first STR to your right side gear as tank and you will be more than fine.

    regards hobbit

Ok may be wrong, but everywhere I have read STR and VIT give the same amount of damage increase 0.45 AP. So I would of thought if you don't need the VIT/Parry/ACC then a STR piece with DET and CRIT would be better.
