I only have one Job per character but I can totally get onboard with adjusting the weekly limit to expenditure per Job for those that multiclass. That and a modest roll-over allowance.

Making the weekly tome limit related to one healer/dps/tank would give me more to do besides cap weekly on my healer and then muddle through the rest of the week crafting/gathering, raiding savage 4 hours a week, then riding the rng train for drops for my alts in Alex normal. I have everything at 60 and alternate jobs while running content that isn't savage and variety is the spice of my in game life. It would be nice if I didn't have to wait for the old tomes to be unlocked to be able to adequately enjoy having more than one job at 60. In a game where you can play everything as one character it definitely doesn't feel like doing so is encouraged any too much.

I'm OK with the idea of a bit of a break on gear prog, but... I'd like it if there were some changes which made things a bit nicer.
For example, being able to run Savage multiple times to fish for loot, but keeping the same one page a week limit. That way you don't have situations where nobody wants the drop because its not BiS or just outright baaaaad. This still means you're only going to have one drop a week, and the one page towards an extra piece eventually. At least that way people can still get to work on their BiS without having to go possibly a full 6 weeks of the first floor for a belt that refuses to drop.
Tomes caps I'd just rather they dropped off significantly after the 'easy' 450. I hit the cap early in the week with all the stuff I run so I'd like a bit of a chance to keep grinding away even if I only got 1/4 of the normal reward.
Really, the fact that we're so stymied on trying to gear multiple classes at once (even to a small amount) sorta sucks. As many have pointed out before, having multiple classes to play at once is sort of 'eh' when you can't even gear them because if a drip on tomes. I can't imagine how people who don't run savage even try and gear more than 1 class slowly.
It's no doubt SE did it on purpose. They don't want you to play too hard, get the gears as soon as possible and then have nothing to do with the new duties.
If the weekly cap is removed, the possible result is not as simple as how soon you gain the tomes. It would cause some non-hardcore players blamed by their team mates for "not having newest gears to make the raid easier".
In other words, people would indulge themselves much more than we thought, if there was no cap. And SE will not profit from increasing your daily play time, to the opposite, if you get bored too soon, that'll be their loss.
While I agree with all but the WoW comment, the red bolded text is the most frustrating that we dont have.I would prefer a great many things:.
1. Tomestones are not the only one avenue to obtain gear - gear drops come from mobs, quests, chests that all have a chance at giving you something relevant for your ilvl
2. Tomestones are not capped on earning, but are rather capped on spending per job. For example, you can spend 450 scripture tomestones on SMN this week, and another 450 on SCH if you so choose - and you can gain as much as you like.
3. Weekly limits have roll overs, for example, if I miss a week, I can catch up on my missed cap the following week and not be behind the rest of my raid team
4. Distribution of Tomestones be spread out a little better. Currently, nothing gives nearly anything the same as expert - this encourages one to run expert only and the 2 new dungeons become boring quite quickly. Xelphatol? Takes 15 minutes (give or take) and you get 50 tomestones vs A12N which takes 10 minutes and gives you 10.
5. Explore the option of making tomestones trade-able, if a cap is put on spending, this would not give anyone an unfair advantage. However, it may open up more possibilities to obtain tomestones. It also could help address the issue, where if someone is away for some reason, they can have a friend get them and trade them over. It also could potentially add to the economy.
It makes it more stressful than not, knowing I have to do it in X amount of time. Heck I know for a fact I'd never get all my tomestones if it rolled over, but at least I can lie to myself and say I'll get them all, and it wouldnt be a waste.
EDIT: #2 needs to be adjusted to role based or something, as tanks and healers can share gear, allowing them to gear up 3 times faster.

If you have all tomes you need within one month then many players probably would just wait till next patch and don't pay for the rest of the months before the patch. With the cap you need several months, so you pay for more months which is good for SE.
It's what you would call a necessary evil, there needs to be a cap or people would cap gear quickly and get bored, with the way this game works, regardless of who wants to admit it. it's a smart business decision, You want people to stay subbed as long as possible so you stretch it out, if there was no weekly cap, there is a good chance this game would have died already. It's no doubt SE did it on purpose. They don't want you to play too hard, get the gears as soon as possible and then have nothing to do with the new duties.

The only time there was no cap was when HW came out with the lore tomes, because the new level cap items were fresh, i assume they may do the same for SB. Maybe.
Folks on this forum have asked for this to change for a long time now..sadly it never does. There is always a reason given, in the latest one Yoshida said something about if they changed it then it wouldn't be FFXIV anymore..
I would not mind a change. I rather they remove the ilvl if anything, like 1.x (With our stats back..haha yea right..)...and that way there is more horizontal choices mixed with vertical. OP, I just feel that this is a dev team or the producer..whoever it is, but they cannot do this. They cannot figure out how to do something different without it "breaking the game" or any thing like that...I kinda gave up hoping we will see anything different.
people already do that lol.
Me: "Aww man I'm clicking all the wrong buttons tonight!"
Friend: "You're i190, you can't click a wrong button unless it is no buttons"
Me: "lol"
