the only problem I have is when drops go directly to the inventory and can't be traded nothing like spending those 5hours to have the drop fall into the afk guys bag.

5hours farming a possible BIS item is not hard work to me, or a bad drop rate. For an MMO I feel like its expected. Lets talk bad drop rates how about killing Fafnir a solid 200+ times in my FFXI career and I saw 2 ridill's drop. This is a 24hour NM repop with a 3hour window I spent a good 600-800hours camping him and got 2 drops total?

edited hours camping I was just avg'ing how much I camped when claiming and forgot we claimed maybe 1/3'rd the time.

Lol 5hrs is excessive? On White knight chronicles 2 I need an item callerd Flemron 108, drops from 1 type of mob, shared pop with it and 3 other mobs.

Over 10hrs and counting for that and no drop.

Just thought I would throw it in there, FFXIV is not the only game that does this, in FFXI I had to wait 1yr to get my DRG AF2 head.

40 kills and no drop. That is nothing compared to the farming for the Raven Lord and Stratholme mounts I was hoping would drop. I farmed those dungeons every weekend for 3 years and still i havent gotten em. Sure its not fun not getting the things your after, but if rare loot was so common, wouldnt that remove the purpose of calling said items Rare/Epic.

It would be the same as in WOW, Epics/Purples are no longer worth being called that.

Yeah, I get that, and it does appeal to certain gamers, but by making really low drop rates all the devs are doing is padding out content. I would rather spend a month progressing through a very difficult raid that has guaranteed drops than play the RNG game.

I'm not going to QQ about this as I too have had the frustration of camping a mob for days to finally either get the drop OR just give up.

Again, I'm all about balance but when certain players or LSs are farming a mob and getting drop after drop after drop and others either get it/don't/or spend hours/days doing it, there IS an inherent issue.
    This gal gets it.

It's a probability distribution in the form of dirac deltas (you either get it or you don't). The more tries you dish out, the more space you fill, the more likely you'll get your drop. There's no "shit-out-of-luck" bar being charged, it's just normal statistics. This fact behind trying continuously is how SE has said TH works in FFXI. It's not a raised probability, it's just more rolls than just one to determine if you get it or not--an "enhanced" probability.

That said, there are still the people (myself included) that always fail to hit the mark for a drop. Just unlucky.

I think drop rates for rare items needs to be low. These coffer items are RARE items.

Besides, you are getting spiritbind on your items while you do this. My LS also usually has some 45+ classes in the party too so they can get some exp.

Being a rare item is cool and all. But items of this rarity should actually be useful. Single slot materia gear that you can get for 100k is better? This is were the imbalance comes in.

You can't attach every type of materia to every gear slot.

Sipahi Helm is great... - enmity and strength which you can't get via materia on a helm, as an example.

However... I still find it strange you can materia the Sentinel gear but not the other sets. Did they ever comment on that?

In ffxi killed Mysticmaker Profblix more than 50 times for the Moldavite, but in the other hand got 3 Macha's Cuffs for the Morrigan's hands the same night.
Here got my Penance after 47 times (I counted them -_-)

Rare items MUST be hard to obtain, what's the point if not?
This isn't FFXI. Not should it be.

Rare items should be "hard" to obtain, but "hard" shouldn't be based off an RNG, but some other means of doing so - make the journey to get the item hard, long, and difficult, but don't make it "hard" by giving it an astronomically low droprate, even though we have proven to the game and others that we are capable of killing that mob that drops the item 100000000000 times.
