    Scholar Fairy Macro Query

Since I am unable to log in, I thought I would plan for healing macros. Also, because I cannot log in, I cannot test this stuff out, so I am posting here.

I am very experienced at healing in MMOs and I have always relied on mouseover targeting to get the job done. I pretty much understand how macros work, but I have a concern with /petaction macros. Embrace only has a range of 25; compared to the normal healing range of 30, that may become a problem.

Do pets move to the required range to cast an ability when ordered to do so? Like, if my fairy is too far away from the target to cast Embrace, will she move to the requisite range and then cast Embrace when I tell her to cast Embrace? I tried to search about this, but all that I could find was some information from 2014.

If the target is out of range of the fairy and you tell her to cast embrace on the target, she will move to heal them. However, I don't recommend using macros in FFXIV. Maybe use macros to print something to the chat like notifying that you're raising someone, but nothing that contains multiple actions, there's a delay with using them.

To clarify, there is technically no delay with macros. It's just that GCD queueing doesn't work with them, and you can't perform multiple actions at the same exact time. However, I've gotten plenty used to using macros for certain pairs of Abilities on Paladin, Dragoon, and others. It works fine, but you have to be aware of and get used to the fact that you have to wait 1 second after peforming any action to perform an action in a macro. Therefore, do not use macros for super duper critical or emergency actions like Hallowed Ground/Holmgang/Living Dead, Provoke, Benediction, or Lustrate. Even using a macro for Swiftcast+Raise/Resurrection/Ascend is a little risky to me, but it is very convenient, and I wouldn't fault anyone for using a macro like that.

That said, pet actions are not on the GCD, so they should always work in a macro, but keep in mind the above info here.

Fairy macros are incredibly useful & the best way to cast Embrace at times. I have mine macroed onto Physick & Adloquium - the reason being that if I need to heal someone specifically they get the boost from Embrace too. If the fairy isn't up, or is not in Obey (for example, Selene during a Hunt) then it doesn't cast Embrace but also doesn't cause any problems either.

I also have a macro to Swiftcast summon & then ensure that the fairy is set to Obey. One of the things many people don't realise is that you can put the "/micon" command at the end of the macro to reduce any delay it may introduce, although I am not convinced that any delay is significant anyway.

Another alternative is to simply have Embrace on your action bar and use it while you're casting other abilities. That way you won't have to macro anything and won't delay fairy casts either (since her cooldown is different than yours).

Even if you wish to use macros (which I don't recommend), you should not tie them with your fairy abilities.

I have a place macro that i use, it either places the fairy or if you cancel out of it, the fairy will simply follow you.
I cannot for the life of me remember how exactly i have it worded though, haha
Also do have embrace + cure macros, playing on a console using macros for sch just makes it alot easier

Yes, and it's alright if you want to heal that way. The only hinderance it causes you is that you will not be able to queue your casts, so it's a tiny bit slower than it would be without macros.

I did the same thing in World of Warcraft on the rare occasions that I did heal, so I know how invaluable mouseover macros are. Don't worry about it.

I power leveled through the day and reached my Scholar class. I wrote a few macros and I am happy with the results. I am just coming back and posting here for two things:

I see the "no queue" issue that has been brought up, but it does not bother me. I could see the problem if there is lag or something, but I am not worried about it.

Also, the fairy cast delat happens with macro and without. I do not see a different between casting Embrace from the pet bar or casting Embrace from my mouse over macro. I already trying to build a habit of weaving Embrace casts as my own character is casting something else or is on global cooldown.
