What do you think of this? (Making seasonal events not sellable on MB)

I'm curious to know the community's opinion of this recent change. It used to be in the beginning of 2.0, seasonal event stuff was sellable on the MB. I joined after the first Christmas holiday (I forget what they call it, star-something) when the dream items could easily be bought/traded/sold and the barding as well.

Even the past All Saints Wake wallpaper, pumpkin items and such could be put on the MB (before SE made them available on the cash shop). I know because I kept some from last year just in case they did this.

With these recent events though, none of the new items can be put on the MB at all. So either you were there for it, or tough luck go to the cash shop. I'm all for giving my fellow players an alternative to spending cash. I held onto that stuff for a year and didn't sell it for some ridiculously high price.

Since these things in houses will be destroyed anyway when they are taken down (unless the MB ones are different and don't get destroyed), why not let us sell them on the MB?

Probably because of their eventual demise to be added into the cash shop.

As far as I know, the only seasonal items that were ever MB-able were relics from 1.0, and then because they were crafted and I presume they didn't want people to have to level a craft to have a Santa hat. Stuff like the pumpkin head and such was never sellable, not sure what items you're referring to.

I wager the basic idea is that it would be a sort of RMT - you could buy stuff out of the cash shop and then sell it on the MB for big buck. Or rather, I wager that is the excuse. The most likely actual reason is: So people who want it have to shell out real money.

Sounds dumb, is dumb, but so is the fact of having the gear of recurring events not recur along with the event in the first place - that, too, used to be different IIRC.

Past event gear is about the only thing I'm okay with going on the cash shop. I earned those rare items because I was at the event when it happened, and making those items readily available in-game to new players would diminish their value to me. That said, I certainly sympathize with new players who see these items and are upset that they can never have them, and them being able to get them on the cash shop is a happy medium. The items are still of value to me, because I earned them for free in-game when they were available, but the people who missed it are still able to buy them if they really want them.

What is not acceptable is putting event furnishings on the Mog Station. With the gear, I can store them year-round in my Armoire, or rebuy them from the Calamity Salavager. I earned those items, they are mine forever, and they don't waste inventory. This is not true for furnishings, which will permanently take up an inventory slot and have no way to be re-bought. As if this weren't bad enough, fixtures are destroyed when you pick them up, and so your only choice if you don't want to have a Halloween wallpaper up for all of eternity is to buy new ones off the Mog Station, or buy the limited originals for ever increasing amounts gil until they're all gone. This is a horrid system and needs to be fixed immediately.

I do not like how gear is gated behind time sensitive things and you're unable to get it after the fact, nor do I like them being added to the cash shop. Having them be purchasable on the market board would be much better IMO - way to incentivize people to continue doing the event after they got their stuff too.

I remember for a little bit at the beginning of ARR there was a vendor for events like Moonfire and Heavensturn who would sell last year's items for gil. I don't see why that can't be a thing, beyond the want for cash shop revenue from past event items.

That said, Kaurie's post hits it exactly, because once you have the seasonal items there's little incentive to keep doing the event in question.

Mostly housing items, things like the pumpkin desks and chairs from last year's All Saint festival
The Heavensturn items, Starlight Sentinel trees and things like that.

If you don't mind being overcharged for something you'll just store away, sure.

Yeah, those cherry trees kept a friend of mine in the money for a long time. She had the foresight to farm about ten of them, and then dribbled them out on the market board six months later at around 4 million gil each.
