Why cant i start a sentence with a number????

this may not be a big deal to some but its really annoying to me when i try to start a sentence with a number, like if someone ask what level i am or whatever the case may be. the text log doesnt recognize the number keys as text keys or something? you have to push space to get the cursor on the chat log, then u can type numbers. the numbers by themselves dont have any purple as far as i can see so why cant the chat log detect that i wanna use them to type????

I'm going to assume you mean when chat-specific keyboard is turned on. Otherwise the number keys are the fastest way to activate abilities. There doesn't seem to be a good reason to filter out the number keys in chat-specific mode.

^This. I was thinking along the same lines. The fastest way to activate the actions on your 'action toolbar' are set by #s 1-0. So when you type 1 <space> level glad or w/e you are tying, since the chat window is also a command line window, the system assumes you want to achieve an action but the corresponding text causes it to go "Derp" and nothing happens or you get the purple/blueish colored text in your chat log.

I agree. when using chat-specific kb settings ANY kb input should trigger the text input AND appear there. It's stupid how messed this kb can be assuming that we did set it as chat-specific...

I honestly still forget I have to hit / or <space bar> to get the window open xD! Use to XI kb/chat. So I end up finding myself open maps or other things lol. *shrugs* Oh well, no big deal for me personally.

its also the same way with /. you cant just type / when someone asks if you are there u have to hit space twice in order to / for something like if someone asks if ur there or whatever reason u need to slash up for. hitting space once just opens the chat box so u need another space for the game to recognize that you just want to slash up for something. another thing that was done in XI that they cant figure out in this game.
