It's time to give up explaining to people, I tried. Some of these posters are the reasons why someone like Trump in theory can become president of the US.

Yeh... thanks. I feel like should try each time this happens, but no matter what analogies/explanations I use, people never seem to believe it or don't want to believe it or maybe they want SE to be at fault as it'd easier than putting pressure on their ISP to fix it/route around...

So a DDOS attack. Ok that helps a lot more to know. Guess I will just play on the EU servers. I'm still new to the game anyways. only got my gladiator to lv10 or 11. So its not that big of a deal that I start over. I just hope between the time differences I can find others to eventually play with.

well it's nice to know it's a DDOS attack.. but still freaking sucks when I just want to relax and put a little bit of time into the game before I have to return to the Real world. Blah.

See if I can explain this terms understandable...

When you connect to the NA servers from wherever you are your data is sent from your location to there through first your ISP and then probably multiple other internet operators and backbone providers before getting there and setting up a pathing for your data.
If (for whatever reason) something like a big backbone provider is having serious issues it will affect anyone routed that path and that can be a serious chunk of the total data to a server. It means you have to try take another path but with the major high-way down that can be troublesome and you time out before your data reach the desired destination.

The closer the troubled provider is to the actual servers the more likely data try path through them and fewer optional routes will be available so a "traffic jam" of sorts will happen where priorities will be iffy and inconsistent to say the least.

The path your home ISP set out on to connect to the servers is not under SE control.

Any compare like "but I can log in there" or "this other game/service work just fine" is utterly irrelevant since data to them obviously don't take the same path.

you can login to the splash screen thats where you choose a different data server. and btw guys its not isp's vault just want to put my 2 cents in uts level3's vault even if they were attacked doesnt really matter.

Probably the best explanation of how things work. Thank you for clarifying and not looking down at people who are upset and confused. As for the DDOS attack anyone claimed responseablity like the nerf-herders in poodlecorps?
