ya i cant play... i dont want eu servers and jp servers cause i dont want people bothering me
You probably can. When the Heavensward splash screen comes up, don't hit "start" right away, and look at the other options. You can change your default data center there before you get to the character select screen.
I'll try that. I've been dc'd for about 13 hrs or more now and I'm not happy.
Yes, the datacenter is connected to the Internet through Level 3's infrastructure.
Ran a traceroute towards Excalibur just for confirmation. Take a good look at those timeouts upon accessing their network:
ORMUCO is where the NA datacenter is physically based. The IP listed in step #21 is the one associated with Excalibur.Erm, so this is a bit odd.
I'm from sweden, couldn't connect to the Aether Data Center, figured i should try turning on my VPN and connect to a server in the US.
I actually got in, lol
EDIT: Tried turning off the VPN and connect again to Aether Data center, diden't work. Turned it back on, could connect without any issues.ISPs in a wide definiton is a lot more than the local company connecting your home to the internet, it's a lot of different points along the route. The different data centres are in different physical locations, so there are different connection points along the way and your data traffic take wildly different routes (and have different ending points). It's like a traffic jam in San Francisco being highly unlikely to affect your drive along the English countryside. Assuming you're not heading through San Francisco.
(Using a VPN solution like WTFast that others have tried and managed to get in through would in this particular instance being comparable to taking a tunnel to a slightly different location first, then approaching your destination from there, circumventing the traffic jam)Update on my alt experiment...
Was able to complete the level one MSQ quest, attune to all the aetheryte around the city (Ul'dah), and then ran all the way to Mor Dhona with my level 1 character (I even died once on the way) to get my black swimsuit.
I then logged out of this char and attempt to reconnect on my main char and it did not work, still go error codes.
At that point I attempted to switch back to the alt I had just created and ran to Mor Dhona... error codes. This seems to happen every few months when Level3 screw up and it's always the people who use ISPs that route via Level3 that have these issues...
The ISP chooses the routing to the destination. It's them that chooses to route via Level3 etc. Square Enix has no control over how you get to their servers or what route your ISP sent you on to get there.
SE don't have anything to make up for... their servers are up. The people who are unable to play are being routed (by their ISP) through bad network paths.
Because those servers are located on a completely different continent. Your route to get to those servers will be completely different.Sigh.. so I am still waiting for my request for data dictionary or a CDM from square.

However, before I head out to my class I did take a broad look at the data provided by ddos sites like http://downdetector.com just to see that going on right now, and I think reached a different conclusion then you all.
I want to clarify something. The reason you cannot connect is not only because that level 3 is being DDOsed and normally game connection the datacenter is through level 3. Its a bit more complicated... sigh...
Let me explain and show you the data I found, so you can draw your own conclusions event though this is only very, very broad metric or broad look at what is happening.
However, I am going to have to type a little fast because I have a class in 15.
So I looked at the DDOS data found on http://downdetector.com (http://imgur.com/a/OzKTX)
Initially, I made the same assumption that you guys did about level 3. So thanks Also thank you Nekodar, Illuvetar, Horsefarmer, ReplicaX, DarkDepravity, worldofneil, Geist, and Greg75043 for your comments as you help me achieve a better understanding of the data. In fact, Geist I really do apprechiate the trace you posted as it confirmed that assumption initially. Contary to my initial assumptions I found that just believing level 3 being DDOSed is the sole cause, only accounts for one example (literally row) in the data that is one users attempt to connect to square. Here is the data:
The problem started around 3:40 AM UT/GMT by the orginal poster. I have aligned the images, so you can compare them in your time zone using GMT time and thus with your experiences.
There is an issue of timing. Now remember that the problem started around 3:40 AM UT/GMT today as noted by the orginal poster. However, Level 3 was not acted until 13:00 UT/GMT (or 9:00 am in the picture). The data and timing of the ISP issues in FFXIV only correlate weakly (40%) with the DDOS data we have on Level 3. In fact, they do not correlate very strongly with anything Comcast seems to have the strongest correlation at 68% with the timing of the FFXIV server problems; however, you might notice that AT&T and the other major providers are all having issues at the same time.
Therefore, I believe that The FFXIV login and connection problems started with a DDOS attack on Comcast and the other major American internet providers. Later another different DDOS attack was performed on level 3 when that other DDOS was widening down. Currently the DDOS on level 3 is the current reason people cannot log in. The timing of Geist ip trace matches this conclusion because the ip trace was run when the attack was switch to focus solely on level 3. However, I don't believe in coincendences of two DDOS affecting the same services occurring back to back....
Thus, it is my personal conclusion that Greg75043 hit the nail on the head and this is a broader DDOS attack across the internet itself using the internet of things... again. This is what the data is telling me broadly speaking.
So if you have any smart technology in your house... that is not a smart phone I would encourage sending it back or turning if off ASAP in addition googling WTFast and using as a bandaid measure.
P.S. Unplug and turn off all TVs, microwaves, airconditioning systems if you can. Also turn off all cameras as cameras were the primary method of the last DDOS.

How long do I keep everything unplugged though?
and the lag that i will get
Still cannot connect to Primal Data Center. I can connect to Aether though. I guess until this is fixed I will make a new character and play on another data center till this is fixed.
