I can get to the character selection screen on Aether now, but it isn't letting me into the game... After that I get "10105 Connection with the server was lost."
1, the infrastructure isn't entirely down, it's just misbehaving badly.
2, Data doesn't necessarily take 100% identical route to the goal even from the same computer.
Definitely can't be an ISP issue. I can log in on Behemoth (where I'm a massive noob and thus dont wanna log in) but not on Cactuar where my main is. Also, I'm not exactly onto it when it comes to tech stuff, but if it was an ISP issue, I can't see how only certain data centres would be affected.
ISPs in a wide definiton is a lot more than the local company connecting your home to the internet, it's a lot of different points along the route. The different data centres are in different physical locations, so there are different connection points along the way and your data traffic take wildly different routes (and have different ending points). It's like a traffic jam in San Francisco being highly unlikely to affect your drive along the English countryside. Assuming you're not heading through San Francisco.Definitely can't be an ISP issue. I can log in on Behemoth (where I'm a massive noob and thus dont wanna log in) but not on Cactuar where my main is. Also, I'm not exactly onto it when it comes to tech stuff, but if it was an ISP issue, I can't see how only certain data centres would be affected.
(Using a VPN solution like WTFast that others have tried and managed to get in through would in this particular instance being comparable to taking a tunnel to a slightly different location first, then approaching your destination from there, circumventing the traffic jam)

Well, want an even better point against 'ISP'?Definitely can't be an ISP issue. I can log in on Behemoth (where I'm a massive noob and thus dont wanna log in) but not on Cactuar where my main is. As I said before (and it's still reproducible here), on the SAME server (Cactuar)...
-I can not connect with my main, even after a couple dozen tries. It jumps between error numbers.
-I always connect with an alt.
-I connect after a couple of tries on another alt.
Can confirm that all existing characters give the error, but making a new character will get you in, and you can even reconnect on this new character after logging back off.
Also confirmed downloading free trial of WTFAST worked instantly to resolve. Have Frontier (Verizon sold to them last year) in Florida USA.
Had severe routing issues all of 2014, and had to use WTFAST to resolve then as well...
I cannot get in either. Error 2002.
I just tried making an alt and it failed miserably....
TY for the info. TIL more about how internet works
edit- not quite getting why an alt on the same server seems to work for some folks though? surely they dont send a specific character one way or another?
