    Adopting little ones

Came to me as an idea since I've fawned over adorable Khloe.

Since housing is able to have vendors and mendors indoors and outdoors, I was thinking maybe adopting a little miqo ( or perhaps other races) child, offering a home in place of taking care of a few things (like gardening, chocobo stable tending, etc.) interacting with furniture, petting a chocobo, sitting on a bench and reading a book, etc.

This would absolutely liven up housing and make the household feel more home-y. What do you guys think?

    hmm ....child slavery.... nice^^

If possible with a few characterdepending lines the child sometimes say some for the cht when you are nearby (talking with itself or other npcs) and some for when you interact with the little one, but that might be to much work.

That would be amazing buuuuuuut, I can't see them doing this without tying a lot of lore to it, and I can't see them adding a bit of involved story content that only the portion of players who own houses could experience.

Sounds like something similar to the holiday event in WoW where you could adopt a child, or somewhat like the Fable series.

If the kiddo was down for fishmealing plants and making sure the garden's tip-top and the chocobo is clean and fed (set inventory for goods like chocobo food, brooms and fishmeal) then I would happily pay them an allowance. After all, Daddy's gotta go out and save the realm from whatever troubles are brewing, can't stay in the house all day. It'd be nice though if they had a "loneliness meter" though, to encourage people to go back to their houses and speak and interact with them, or face them disappearing out of neglect.

    THIS. This right here.

Gardening takes up so much of my time, these days! I would love to have someone to do that drudge work for me.

I mean, menial tasks are what we have kids for anyway, right? >.>

How would you pay them? Ventures?

I pay mine in food, toys, a place to live, and health insurance. :P

But actually, that's not a bad idea. A place to live is part of it (enough to keep the kid there), but maybe if you want them to maintain things around the house, you have to bring back food and other items. Maybe each week, there's a food or other item the kid requests as payment for their services (stuffed chocobo, cookie, piece of clothing, etc), and the class of item (rarity/expense) scales with the size of your house, and what all you want the kid doing (gardens AND chocobo feeding? That'll cost you extra).

If you're happy just having the kid there, keeping the house is enough (of course, if you lose the house, the kid goes back to the orphanage). If you want services, you pay what they're asking for.

With the reckoning of the Calamity, many children's parents were killed, leaving them to fend for themselves at the Grand Company founded orphanages to house and shelter these unfortunate kids. And since regular folk don't have the chance at the lucrative places in the housing districts since they're adventurer only plots, what better way to give the children loving homes than to offer adventurers the chance to adopt them to their houses and care for them, with the benefit of house maintainance for the small price of giving the child whatever gifts and food they desire on a set basis, and requiring that there's a spare bed for them to sleep on?

Also, this gives Square the chance to model NPC children for each of the current playable races, since we only ever see Hyur and Miqote children right now.
