I love the explanation of the Voidsent

This lorebook has been an absolute joy to read.

    Especially the voidesent.

Knowing now that these "demonic" creatures were not demonic at all but citizens of a parallel Eorzea shows just how paramount it is to push the darkness back to balance.

I loved the explanation of some of the more "higher voidsents," with Cuchulainn in general.

To know this massive tentacled creature was probably a warrior of light (or, at the very least, a hero who was assigned to trap their primals) is very troubling and a reminder what could happen to us if we fail Hydaelyn and the darkness takes over or how to be more careful to use the tools we use to dispatch the Ascians. Since it was the same type of crystals these heroes used that transformed them into beasts being the same mechanics we now use to destroy the acians. If we continue to use it, we will become a creature we were sworn to destroy.

I remember when the game was first released, i assume it was simply demonic creatures from "hell" but knowing now that these were once people like you and me puts a more personal twist to the tragedy.

That's not quite how it worked. The people of the 13th world discovered they could trap primals in Auracite, I suppose in the same way we trap Ascians. However they didn't destroy the primals, only trap them and then some of them realised they could use the power of the trapped primals as weapons. Using this power allowed them to vanquish many threats but it changed and corrupted them, twisting them and giving them a great hunger for Aether. Eventually they began fighting amongst each other for the worlds dwindling Aether supply before the world finally fell into a Void of Darkness.

While we trap the Ascians it is to allow us a finishing blow. We don't actually attempt to use the power of the Ascians we trap. I think this is a fundamental difference in what we do and what they did on the 13th. It does show us that Auracite is potentially dangerous if used incorrectly, something I very much expect we will see happen later on. This also makes me wonder if the Heart of Sabik is basically a big Auracite.

Regardless, its very interesting. More over I start to wonder if most of the top tier voidsent were Auracite wielding champions at one point and also, how much have they actually physically changed becoming Voidsent? Could Cuchulainn's appearance be from becoming Voidsent or could he have resembled something close to that form already due to the Primal/Auracite corruption? This would also explain much of the rather drastic differences in appearance of many higher tier Voidsent.

The problem with the "we should stop using Auracite or we'll fall into darkness" is that the variety we use (White Auracite) was specifically noted by Moenbryda to be incapable of storing aether for prolonged periods of time. If we didn't blow up the Auracite we trapped Nabriales and Igeyorhm in, they would have escaped in a matter of minutes if not seconds. The same is likely true for any primals we could potentially capture with it - but since we don't know where White Auracite comes from or how to make it (apparently), that's kind of a moot point.

Anyway... no way to know if the people who use Auracite to trap and use Primal energy were Warriors of Light. It was noted that Igeyorhm's original position was to keep the balance on the Thirteenth, but her overwhelming power due to the lack of light there was what led to the world being consumed by darkness. The people going crazy with Primal Auracite probably didn't help, but it's not known to be a direct cause for the world's fall.

right, i didnt say they were necessarily warriors of light i wrote: "probably a warrior of light (or, at the very least, a hero who was assigned to trap their primals) and i didnt say the use of the Auracite was a direct correlation for the world's fall. I noted Cuchulainn because that is what happened to that individual.

Probably the most important take-away on it is more that Elidibus is absolutely right and that maintaining the balance is critical, which means sooner or later we're going to have to broker some sort of peace between Hydaelyn and Zodiark because we can't afford for either side to win outright.

While the confirmation is nice, didn't we sorta learned all of this in the main story already, granted on a smaller scale. When we are headed to Haukke Manor, the premise we are given is that the Mistress of the Manor dabled in the "dark arts" and corrupted everyone turning them into voidsents.

Haukke Manor explained how voidsent can possess people and twist them but it was never really official how the birth of the voidsent was established...officially, until recently.

I've been thinking about this for a bit. Garland is probably going to be the key. They will most likely not see eye to eye and we might just have to get rid of them both and have a world with no Gods.

Or conversely the Garleans are going to have to face that a couple of the gods are Actual Gods and unfortunately they are Just Going To Have To Deal.

Unfortunately for all of us, really, Zodiark just seems like a tool and Hydaelyn's a bit of a ditz, but if they're underpinning reality we're probably stuck with them.

I wonder what that makes the Cloud of Darkness.
