In a way yes, the updates effect how much people care in killing those. As of late motivation has been a bit on a low side, I even soloed the furby after shouting it was there. It spawned near the level 30 AST quest I was doing and changed to my BLM. (Though someone came from my novice network after i got it down to 20% remaining.) Hunts always been that way and repeating someone said here, 1.0 was worse.

P.S. I am on one of the larger population servers too.

Well, don't ever play XI then. Aggro in this game is a joke, as you can probably sprint away from whatever SAW you (that's right, you ran in it's line of sight).

Yes, this has been around since hunts were added. If the big red Lv.50 tag on their name isn't a good enough hint to stand back, then the cleave that will inevitably happen to teach new players to keep off higher powered monsters should.

This. Imagine mobs that don't just aggro line of sight but also sound in a circle around them. And mobs that aggro low-hp. And mobs that aggro magic use. Now further imagine that if they chase you they don't stop until you are dead or make it to a zone line. And even then they don't politely turn around and go home, bothering no one until they are in their own area, oh no, they'll aggro you no matter how far they are from where they belong. Now also add in the fact that in 11, linking was by mob family rather than a couple of pre-set links, meaning that one aggro could turn into dozens of monsters chasing you... There was a time when the Crawler's Nest zone regularly got shut down for rl days on end due to over a hundred crawlers just inside the door.

I visited Faerie for like an hour to level an alt. Was on my way to Summerford, and next thing I know, I'm a baking lala. I've been running into A Ranks as a sproutling who's only a lvl 11 or less.
    Kinda fun lol

Why not just make hunt marks not aggro anyone under level 50?

Oh the trolling was real in that game. Zoning into Angelring and his army of porings and new people spamming "WTF happened?!?!?!"

Best thing to do is tell folk in Novice Network about it. Or ask in your FC or linkshells you may be in for help. Shouting its name and position with <t> <pos> may also bring in high power help to remove the obstruction. The biggest thing about A and S ranks is when hunt fever dies down in a patch cycle you become more likely to run into them as they are not dying almost immediately after they respawn.

I'm on a low pop server and it's been like this since I started, with occasional breaks whenever a patch came around that incentivised hunting for a while. I swear Alectryon would spawn on quest/leve targets every time I was in Western Thanalan, and Melt was a constant presence in my life when I'd do beast quests in East Shroud. We have a couple of hunt groups on Yojimbo who will clear things out when they are online but there are so few people around that the marks will often be up for hours, and of course people die to them. I sort of like it but then I came from FFXI and like a bit of rough and tumble (the lack of fear in outdoor zones is a bit disappointing and I'm amazed the chocobo keepers haven't gone out of business when you can just safely autorun everywhere).
