question to vets

So I'm fairly new been playing the game about 3 months, I play a little unorthodox like I have alts I'm very much into aesthetics and character creation. So I have a ton of msq left, but I've kinda neglected story and focused more on leveling and getting Gil. So my question is with a new expansion coming out prob 8 months from now , I will be putting most of my work into this character will prob just run story itself on the others. But I'm just curious if you are into msq the most once you finish the hw story do you run out of stuff to do , outside of leveling ur gear and getting mounts. That's my fear of spamming story and why I've taking my time I don't want to finish story because I would feel like the side stuff alone may not keep my interest so I'm just curious on what everyone that is done with hw story up to date ends up doing with most of their time in game that keeps them logging in everyday. Also what do these medals by ur name mean?

I haven't found a lack to do since finishing the story. I even have all classes to level 60 and I still have tasks to do that aren't just gearing up.

Thank you I just worry , is all Ive left alot of games unfinished and i love this game so its more of a fear than anything i dont wana lose interest and I know you have raids and stuff but Im not sure if Id be a good raider if only a certain percent have even cleared raids I dono if I could out skill all those other players.

I'm not a vet in this game, haven't completed HW MSQ, but, sometimes, I'll log on and just go fishing. For hours.

The medals next to the name here somehow indicates forum participation - posts, likes (you've clicked), and liked posts (people liking your posts).

There are lots of side quests, beast tribes, gold saucer distractions (still working on my rank 9 chocobo!), sightseeing, glamour (the true end game!), fishing, actually socializing...
I spent several hours yesterday just hanging out with FC members, tweaking some glamour, and adding new stuff to my basement.

I've heard a lot of people mention fishing I went botany and mining , both around level 50ish , It wasn't the funnest thing in the world ahha but i enjoy the mats at least for miner, and I've already started glamour. I love the changes to the prisms they made, but maybe I should try fishing when I get to a certain point in the game everyone says its the easiest to level.

While I can't understand the love for fishing everyone here seems to have, I agree with the others
Once you are done with the story, you can do everything else the game offers. Even JUST getting your gear to a higher ilvl can be very fun because there are various ways of doing it.

For example, what I did yesterday:
- bred several chocobos and trained up 2 of them
- went into Palace of the Dead a few times because it's fun (also gives weapons, achievement points and tomestones, and that elusive hairstyle..but I went for the fun xD)
- ran Mentor roulette several times + helped newbies from the newbie network
- sat in my garden and talked to my friends
- completed several entries of the weekly agenda to finally get the recruits I want for my squadron

That said, I actually haven't finished this patch's story yet either..xD
For some reason, I really like spreading the story out into little pieces over the entire patch life, otherwise it feels too cut off until the next ^^;

that's exactly what I like doing and helping other players im in the process of tryin to become a crafting mentor now , so I had to catch up with a bit of story 6 levels away on my miner, and gsm then the collectibles and ill be there

While burn out could occur, it all depends on how you spend your time like has been mentioned. Burn out usually occurs from rushing to do content.
This game has plenty to do, getting all jobs to 60 (including crafting and gathering) Primal and EX Primal fights, raids, etc..

Fishing can be very frustrating if you are trying to get a particular fish but can otherwise be very relaxing.
