The funny thing is, in your logic the game is playing itself. Yeah just hit the automatic button and watch, rinse repeat. What amuses me about this comment is that 13 wanted fluid battles and it did accomplish that. basically when people say that it's like they are saying "well I wouldn't have used the move that mob was weak against hell no, I wanted to use fire on that fire type monster not water." It's like the concept basically said, well in a game you pretty much perform the moves that are most efficient for the battle, so instead of having to give commands to every player you controlled one, and your moves were based on the most logical setup you as the player would end up choosing anyway.
The strategy in the game itself came from changing your batle plans through the battle whether you needed healing, someone to act as a shield or enhance your party or enfeeble the mob. In that case the game moved pretty fast and the action itself was pretty much formulated as "well these are the actions you would pick anyway so why are you complaining that's it's done automatically?" Unless you actually enjoy the aspect of doing "magic" "Fire 3" "use", "magic" "Fire 3" "use" rinse repeat til the mob is dead lol.
I'd rather games go the action route. My best and most fun game at the moment is Devil May Cry 3/4. I WANT a game where I can literally move out of the way of an attack to dodge it instead of depending on some stupid number based off of some gear I grinded x hours for for its "stats". That's why if XV goes that direction, I'll be all for it. I want twitch based online MMO action games with RPG elements and FF storyline and lore. Obviously, XIV's current system doesn't allow for this because of the position update latency (that I've emphasized on repeatedly in the stickied Tech Support thread), but if XV actually turns into an MMO I'd be more than happy for it to go that route.
I know I'm in the minority here since most FF players prefer to only play methodical turn-based games, but I think Square's starting to realize where the money is. I wouldn't want the next FF MMO to be a button masher, but something - ala DMC -that requires timing, execution, and great reflexes to be successful in. I come from an MMO instance-based action game (PSU) - FFXIV was actually somewhat of a step down for me, so if Square feels that's the direction its MMOs should go, my itchy trigger action finger will be more than welcome to the change.

They'll learn. Mass Effect one, good rpg, Mass Effect 2, streamlined piece of crap. Dragon Age I was a great story not so great combat, dragon age II ok combat, awful story. While this is only bioware, even in their interviews they say how they streamline games due to people not like the tedious rpg elements, then they over streamlined and people hated the game for not even being an rpg, now they tell us "sorry about that, next one will try to bring the great of modern rpg, but still the challenge of an old school rpg" Japan is 5 years behind the western world in gaming right now, its been in many gaming articles, and I'd say I agree, they're marketing is awful leaving them less money to even make the next game likeable. If they can get on the marketing band wagon, they could sell awful games, people buy the worst games due to a good commerical (MW3 didn't even show any gameplay footage and it broke a sales record, that gaming series has been unchanged since MW and stagnant, people still buy em up , they rely on new people to buy the game as they lose older players due to stagnation) . Marketing Marketing Marketing! Sell games even if crappy, money from crappy game pays for better niche game that doesn't sell as much but does well if you count sales overtime. Keep gamers happy!
We appreciate your enthusiasm in discussing the FINAL FANTASY series, but the purpose of these forums are to discuss FFXIV specifically. As such we are going to be closing this thread.
