How is Camphor going directly into the final product and how is it different from Borax?
Camphor is a component of intermediary leathers and the leathers are what go into the final product.
Borax is a component of intermediary lumber and the lumber are what go into the final product.
A 60**** recipe with all HQ mats starts at around 6,500 quality.
A 60**** recipe with 1 GC seal lv 50 mat starts with around 6,000 quality.
A 60**** recipe with 9 Borax starts with around 3,000 - 3,500 quality (I don't remember the exact number.) The one saving grace to Borax is at least NQ Teak is good for Tier 4 Aquariums.
Borax and Razisap both cost about ten times less grand company seals than other grand company seal items used for high level crafting, so it balances it out.
Camphor crafting sucks a lot. I have sometimes avoided crafting much leatherworker stuff because of how much time it takes to craft camphor.
Camphor is an ingredient of an ingredient that must be manually crafted from a crapload of branches and you need 3x camphor per eikon leather. On Cactuar that's 70k gil for the camphor. How is Camphor going directly into the final product and how is it different from Borax?

Borax is an ingredient of an ingredient that only costs 250 grand company seals and you need 2x borax per treated camphorwood lumber. On Cactuar that's less than 10k gil for the borax.
What is up with all the defending of final fantasy at the expense of common sense on the forum? It's about what I imagine defending big brother thought processes would be like in 1984.
Neither go into the final product, so it doesn't matter if either are hq. The leather and lumber can be fairly easily made by good crafters just using the hq lore mats, but for the leathers you still have to take the time to craft 3 nq camphor per leather, which is 6-9 camphor per recipe. It may not seem so bad, but if you are crafting for sale on the market and want to make 5 or 6 leather pieces to sell, thats 30-45 camphor you need to craft.
Again, I don't disagree with how SE did this, because it makes a market for camphor, bad crafters can hq camphor if they need to, and it keeps leather prices high. Still, I am no longer a leather worker because of the camphor situation lol.
Crafting Camphor takes all of two minutes if you don't care about quality. SH2+ING2+RS/SS til done. Camphor is balanced just fine against other crafts because you invest the time for HQ to ease your component or you spam it fast and craft normally. Factor in the flexibility as a benefit and maybe you'll see why some crafts are the way they are.
