I already mentioned an alternative for people that want the intended outcome (PL'ing) without the residual blowback (Mob stealing of suggested levels)

This is a game, yes. This is a game meant for multiple players, yes. You don't have to incorporate play mechanics that can be used to intentionally grief people when there is a completely different method to provide the same outcome.

It's what we call in the real world "a rational alternative".
I'm not talking about your real life, I'm talking about your irrational expectation of programming out human nature. We are competitive, we like to assert our dominance, and sometimes, we just like to just be jerks.. Has anybody even bothered to think that a portion of the reason for the many failed MMO's is due to the fact they they go out of their way to minimize that? Or that some of the most long lived MMO's are those whose rules allow those qualities to enable us to prosper? There is more to an MMO than being able to group with people to do a dungeon. In fact, those are technically co-op single player games. MMO's are partially defined by the community. Which means there needs to be a way for the jerks to be jerks. The more stops you put in, the worse the game gets.

And thus, Square-Enix created the FFXIV forums.

The worse the game gets... for jerks. It's not a demographic I think we should accommodate. Even sports have rules against "unsportsmanlike" conduct. Any healthy competition does.

    lmao.

Ok, I agree with you that it sucks that your friends will only play the game with you for 2 weeks because of nothing to do. But on the other hand, I like that there is nothing to do since I'd rather quit and go play another game rather than chase a carrot around for 3 months. It's hard to say where on this scale the game should land. I think in time it will work itself out because eventually there will be so much to do that your friends will have something. Until then, I recommend getting your friends to try to play Dark Souls. In many ways that is a great multiplayer online experience.

0 grind = it's not a mmo, that's like paying a monthly charge for a dvr cause it can record while you watch other stuff. ...get this our old vcr's prior to there creation already did that they just took that option out threw removing the tuners on them. then rewraped it to you again with a monthly. your welcome. lol
Playing a offline game like fable when you reach the end there noting? there is no need for a grind becuase what the point? its offline. But in a online game i looking for something to do for 4-8hours if 4-8hours i gain 10+levels it going to take me less then 1week to get max level then what? Do the dungeon that the gear is pointless now? I'm level up crafting becuase at least that a grind.

I hope SE get it together listening to the player base with that mind set wont help out the game they just leave for something else that = less grind they need to listen to the core fanbase which going to stay with them for 6+years.

And I'm sure that during your entire MMO experiences you've never been a jerk? Not once did you spam an ability to snag a mob before someone else who may have been there waiting for the mob longer than you?

And ironically, that is what people here are saying SE needs to go out of their way to stop.

Their core fanbase is going to stay with them no matter what, it's particular people who have to always see numbers going up that might leave.

I never suggested it was intended, I simply stated that it was the end result.

Claiming systems like this was what caused 99% of the drama among HNM linkshells who had to resort to measures like hacks and MPK to thwart their competition. To me, that's everything that's wrong with how FFXI handled a competitive environment which only brought out the worst in people.
