With the data mining that's been done it's pretty safe to say we're looking at a caster BLU. As for how it would work: in fight I imagine it would function much like a debuff support class with a standard DPS complement. It's probably not what most people want to hear.
The main issue is that Blue Mage is just...weird. It's usually there to use the game mechanics against the game, and in games like Tactics, V, etc, where everything is just numbers, that makes sense. You can cast berserk on an enemy and lock its skills at the cost of giving it a damage boost no problem.
That wouldn't work on Suzaku. You're not casting berserk and skipping the colours.
You're not throwing out doom on enemies, the level specific ones are right out, etc
Going off this list we might see:
Angel Whisper - Raise. Though this makes BLM stand out even more now.
Mighty Guard - Defensive stat boost.
White Wind - Group healing
Transfusion - Fully revives a target, KOs user in exchange. Could be interesting...
Night - Group sleep. Will never be used lol.
Aero/Tornado - Wind damage
Aqua Breath/Tsunami - Water damage
Flamethrower/Beta - Fire damage
1000 Needles - AOE
Acid - Maybe to keep a debuff up on the enemy during rotation like slashing resistance, but iirc they're looking at getting rid of those, at least to balance the DRG/BRD issue, so idk
Lifebreak/Limit Glove - Could be interesting, but as you can't really coordinate with healers to keep you low enough to be useful probably not.
Matra Magic - could combo with 1000 Needles for AoE?
Self Destruct - Holy hells yes please. This is some goof right here.
Guard Off - General guard debuff
Vampire - Basically energy drain anyway.
Amplification/Animating Wail - Buffs
Poison Claw - Could be a DoT
Then job padding with whatever gauge mechanic they're pushing.
And most other things are just covered elsewhere like raw damage, crazy overpowered or are raw status like Frog or Mini that will NEVER have a spot on a class in this game because they just wouldn't work without it being something like mini just being a damage down, which is covered.
I don't want this because buffs and debuffs in this game are really powerful, and it would cement Blue Mage as near mandatory, especially when you compound it with Trick attack and the like, so I hope I'm missing the mark wildly. Bbut it would certainly be more interesting than just raw damage, or Red Mage 2.0 through the supports and buffs.
But the idea that BLU doesn't work in this game in the first place suggests they'd have to change it up pretty significantly.
