Also it isn't ALWAYS a good idea to hide your vulnerable sides

An example let's say you got a bunch of good cards but one REALLY weak card. Let's say 5's in top and right. But 2's in left and bottom. I'll often purposely expose both 2's so when the other NPC bites the bait of taking that card they might expose a side. And you can easily reclaim it back.
