    Policy change: Allow username changes

I am divorced and legally changed my name. However, my username is still my former married name. Support told me usernames cannot be changed. The only way to change my username is create a new account, enter my account and billing data from scratch, and start over with a brand new character.

I propose Square Enix allow for username changes in the event of legal name changes. It's a disappointing customer experience to be reminded of my ex-husband every time I log in. I imagine it's a similar experience for people who have changed their names for this and other reasons, such as transgender name changes, legal protection, or even for married couples or domestic partners to still see their maiden names.

I was easily able to change my username with Blizzard and with Ubisoft. Square Enix is the only company providing a disappointing customer experience.

Shoddy customer service should always be pointed out.

The DB Architect for their account system was a fool and set account name as primary key. He needs to go back to school.
The PK should be set to an identity index and enforce unique property on account name.
That way all relational tables use the index and account name is changeable.
Sloopy, sloopy design if that is indeed the situation.

As a Square Enix customer, sometimes I think Square Enix policy spoils Support Team of FFXIV. There are a lot of things they can do for a better experience for players and one example is this post. GMs seems like they want help, but cant for a superior reason
Also, Blizzard is Godlike with their support team. Never played a Blizzard game and I know how they are.

At first I thought you meant the forum username and was like "Wait, your real name actually is Baguette?"

But now I see you meant the real name in the account data. I'd love to be able to change it, since mine isn't correct either (put in a wrong last name at the time of account creation because I was living with someone else and thought the mailman couldn't deliver any important mail/bills whatever from SE if the name wasn't on the mailbox, so put the last name of the one I was living with).
