...pack in smallest box... (Lore-book delivery)

So, I just got my lore-book delivered, very happy about that, book seems totally to be worth its prize! However... I ordered it from germany and had to pay about 24€ for shipment, something I was willing to swallow in the end. Still: I got my book in a box, that meassures 30x23x33cm... big enough to fit about 8 or so of them in? One reason, the shipment cost is this high is because, well, they send it in a bloody box like this! Funniest thing is: The delivery note says "Pack in smallest poss method" - and I cant believe THIS is the smallest possible method...

there was packing with it, no worries - I threw that out though... no need for a bunch of little plastic bags filled with air... oh, wait... could have sold that as original-SE-air! Dammit!

Mine was exactly the same, actually remarked to the delivery driver how big the box was for a book.

"What book is it?" He asks.

"Uh, an encyclopedia," I reply.

"Ah you're studying!"

"Yeah... something like that..."

Just to correct you on this.

Shpping costs are calculated on weight/destination/ and to a lesser degree box dimensions**

** box dimensions are usually in tiers. Ie. If the box is over X dimensions it will cost an extra Y per kg. Often these dimension tiers are quite largr, so it is very unlikely the size of your box changed shipping costs.

Your cost will be set mainly on weight/destination/shipment and not on the size of the box.

How do I know this? I had to ship hundreds of items daily all around europe and I can confirm shipping isnt as straight forward as people believe it to be.

At least the item being damaged upon delivery is pretty low. Trying to get a replacement for a limited stock item would be a PITA.
