Just to correct you on this.

I hate to correct you on this, but at least in germany it also matters on the dimensions of the package you're sending. Yes, weight and destination do also matter but you'll pay more for a shipment in a larger box and might have the option to save a few bucks if you actually take care of how you're sending things around... oh god, I sound so german...

This was also not only meant to complain, but more to... share this curiosity with you guys ;P Getting an item in such an oversized box to find out that this is the smallest possible option does amuse me a little

i have friends in other countries and suffer th same problems.... you don't sound "so german". I think you sounds more like a normal person that is out of the US and Canada who has to suffer with their mail.

I used to work for a company that did online sells. The box size was bigger than the actual product (out the US and Canada) because they wanted to prevent sending out a replacement. I heard some customer complaining about their product and wanting to get a replacement the following day :X with a tiny little box and make sure their postal service handle the item with care and love. I was like " sir/ma'am complain to your postal service with respect to your delivery and handle of packages. The small the box is the less care by some people ( that's the mentality of people). They are humans and if they are in a bad moon at work or don't really care much, and they see a small box, they just toss it. I watch a few doing that. I just sucks that SE don't explain why they charge that much for shipping

I remember when I got the HW soundtrack CD it came in a box much bigger than necessary, too. It was ridiculous.

I am pretty sure the box heavily influences the shipping fee. I remember a while ago I wanted to oder a Fat Cat plushie (from Germany) and the shipping fee was exactly the same. Now I really doubt that the plushie weights as much as the book but the dimensions for the box could fit it just fine....

Over here in the Netherlands (Howdy neighbour!) the mail companies handle weight tariffs as well for items that exceed the size of what fits through an average mailbox slot.
After that it doesn't really matter how large the package is (Up until certain dimensions of course), the same goes for international deliveries.

As for the large box, the company arranging the distribution of the books may have a ton of these boxes through a bulk deal making it cheaper to send them like this.

Literally everything I have ever ordered from Amazon.jp comes in boxes that are ridiculous in comparison to the size of the product. Makes me wonder whether they only have really large boxes available. Maybe that's the case with SE too?

Yeah got such a big box too..I had the calender in it too but there was so much space still left..its mostly the same with amazon boxes..only if I order a game or a small book will I get a nice small box..otherwise its always really big and feels like such a waste..really hope that they might look into this, I dislike that I have to pay so much for delivery..
