So "Asylum" Is Useful ... When?

Maybe it's because I'm not particularly creative but frankly having just learned "Asylum" I'm asking myself "why?".

Maybe it's because the brief tooltip is lacking:

"Envelopes a designated area ... healing any party members who enter .. Potency 100, Duration 24".

So what use is this when Medica II gives a 200 Potency AoE heal and a 50 Potency AoE regen for 30. Sure, I can toss out an Asylum as well but why would I bother?

What situations would Asylum be better than a Medica (I or II) and/or Regen?

0 mana cost, up to 800 potency of healing per person in the AoE.

Medica II is 700 potency in total, can be enhanced by Divine Seal, and doesn't require you to be in a single area. But it has a hefty mana cost.

All these extra healing spells will only be useful if you spend enough time DPSing.

    1. It's free. No reason NOT to use it.

    2. It's oGCD, so you don't waste time using it either.

    3. Regens stack, so you can use this WITH medica 2 and regen to make life super easy, and possibly switch to cleric and DPS

Like others have said, though to put it in a different wording, it's not something that competes with regens. It's extra, bonus, etc.

I use it when I know shit is about to hit the fan, or when shit has hit the fan to boost HoT for the whole party.

It's awful but its a nice free, medica II/regen reinforcement.

For example on a really common example is during large pulls on experts, regen on tank, asylum and E4E and you're free the spam holy as much as you can.

Other than what's been said, I also use it on big pulls not only for the tank to get the regen, but for a "safe" spot to holy spam. That way I can eat an AOE or two and not have to spend time healing myself

When you want room to DPS, to conserve mana after multiple raises, as a regen boost during damage-heavy phases, to top off ranged party members... it's better to use it in conjunction with other HoTs unless you're taking low damage.

    Cleric stance.

I play AST, but when paired with a WHM I'm often surprised to see this skill not being utilized for certain DPS bursts. For example A11—the entire party has a burn debuff and we're all about to be stacked in front of the boss to pump out DPS with healers (ideally) in cleric. Granted this is usually a quick and easy check, but we want everyone topped off in case they get clipped by the charge at MT after, and it would continue to be useful as the MT is about to get a bleed while the rest of us still have burn even after the DPS check has completed.

If you don't raid I suppose you won't find much use in this, but it's a very nice added regen for your tank or party.

For big pulls in dungeons, it's great to slap this on your Tank while you dps.
If you don't dps though I guess it would seem useless as well.
