I'm not saying there's anything wrong with Mario per say, but you have enough games to show off your flagship, dear god, you have Smash. If XIV suddenly has Mario show up, it really will look like a theme park MMO then. The kind that only stays a float by how many more ridiculous things we can put into XIV to gain new subs whether it makes sense or not and abusing the "they came from another dimension! It's okay!" trope a million times.
I think you have it backwards. I sincerely doubt Nintendo wants Mario associated with a game that features questionable language, the use of drugs, alcohol (since that keeps getting censored outside of Japan - we all know King Koopa is holding a sake bottle in Mario Kart), prostitution, slavery (Ul'dah's coliseum, if you've forgotten), dismemberment and *gasp* actual death.

As for the topic, bringing FFXIV to the Switch, I couldn't say. I don't have enough technological knowledge of Switch/PS4 to compare and what FFXIV actually needs (and will need if they are planning to update the game's graphics as was hinted for the expansion after Shadowbringers). It's not really so much as bringing a Nintendo console up to Sony's level, it's about making sure it'd meet FFXIV's requirements to run smoothly.
