It's running a custom Nvidia Tegra, which makes it a bit of a mystery as to potential output. The Tegra that are in mobile devices now seem to work well, including managing heat levels. I can't say from experience though, just from reviews on products that have it.No. It is the size of a tablet, so there is likely no active cooling solution. That fact alone gives strong hints to the type of power you're looking at. It will have to be a very low voltage processing core, in order to give it a decent battery life but more importantly to keep heat down.
Yes, as I quote from Nvidia themself
"Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards."
From this statement alone we can see that they are trying to make the custom tegra on the same level as the 1060-1080
"NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses."

A little more detail on the Nvidia graphics chip - This particular version of the Tegra X2 is a custom Tegra utilizing the "Pascal" architecture that puts the chip closer to a 1080 then the 1060.
You were asked if it made Switch more powerful than PS4. The above doesn't answer it. All you're doing is taking a fluff announcement from nVidia and inferring something from it that is not really there. It Tegra were out performing nVidia discrete GPU products, their GPU products would fold.Yes, as I quote from Nvidia themself

The fact that they use the same architecture is significant, but unless they are packing the same numbers of computational units on the silicone, using the same architecture is not the same as having the same performance. That's before you even start talking clock performance and memory bandwidth...or other types of hardware built onto the GPUs and APUs used in other systems.
My god, people think that the SDF (Sony Defence Force) is/was bad. Apparently they have nothing on the NDF...
It's not that the NDF is bad, it's that you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
That and you are talking about a console that's gonna be more powerful than ps4 holding back FFXIV
Which in reality you should be talking about how PS4 will be holding back FFXIV.

looks like it running skyrim HD so i'm assuming it's just as powerful

always looking for good people.
that's just an HD to a older game. doesn't mean its just as powerful. which it most likely isn't

Acording to the rumor mill it's not running Skyrim HD. It's just stock footage being used for the commercial. From what I heard Bethesda is saying they have nothing confirmed yet for development with Nintendo's new console. Same with EA, but to be frank. Zelda and the two Mario titles, might be the only ones showing its hardware performing. Unless it was a scripted clip doing the Nomans Sky thing to promote the console without actually showing anything running off of it.LINK TO THE NEW NINTENDO SWITCH

Like in the other thread, the UI or HUD is the only thing that'll need tweeking for portable play. Then there's the thing on how you are supposed to type on it. However that all depends on the battery life if it can get 8 to 10 hours as a mobile device, great. Anything around 3 to 5 hours might not work to well for most gamers. On that topic I'm waiting to hear what the battery life is and if it can be replaced without replacing the whole thing.
