"Changing" as far as Content is concerned, I know on a Technical standpoint, that EVERYTHING is changing within that, but the Content itself that the game provides, for the most part is not changing, just carried over.@Starlord
Actually they are changing the game engine so that it'll be easier to work with, taken from

Q: It seems like with FFXIV 2.0, you will be changing the game engine and changing other core aspects of the game. But will movements and such be as laggy as the current client? Will we need to upgrade our PCs?
A: Currently, the game can only display 40 characters on-screen no matter what kind of PC you have. However, with an MMO engine, people expect this to be dependent on hardware—a high spec PC should be able to display a large number of characters. That’s why we’re changing the graphics engine.

So ya it's a lot more complex then just changing the areas, if that was the case then they wouldn't have to go through the period in which they have to move the character data from this version of XIV into 2.0 lol.
