Because that would result in the shutting down of servers, and would cause several cases of people complaining to the company about purchasing a game they cannot play. They know for a fact that they would bring in enough revenue when they start charging to be able to keep the servers live, even when thinking about giving a discount. So all in all they are quite confident in what they are doing and how well 2.0 will do.
