Then why dont they assume zero, not charge until the actual game they intend for us to play is out? because it obviously is not this version since it is being tossed out

other than the reasons they already gave us there is no other answer unless you work for SE or have factual knowledge of otherwise which neither of us do.
it is going to happen. this is fact. not charging is not an option....so what is your solution?
15 abilities each? what is this... Kindergarten?A jack of all trades WHM... what is this 1989?
Because they want to keep the game they don't intend for us to play up 24/7. Because some people want to play it. Those people will pay for being able to play it. 2.0 is coming regardless, yet that doesn't mean they have to keep the current build online until that time.
Its very simple. They don't owe the people who have played this game a year anything except the new build (which, like said, is coming either way).

What part of "server upkeep and GM crap" did you not understand? It takes money to run an MMO. Even the Free-to-Play models have a cash shop to pull in money for basic server needs.
You've had a year free for an originally planned Pay-to-Play game, which is way more than any other MMO company would do for you. Now the costs are starting to really stack up, and instead of isolate the entire playerbase by shutting down the servers until 2.0, they are moving forward with their plans while still keeping the game open AND updating it.
Do you not think that the whole process would be easier for the dev team if they shut down the servers til 2.0 time? Of course it would. But for once, a section of a corporation is going out of it's way to listen and support it's playerbase, and to do that, the money from the subs are needed to at least cover the basic costs of keeping the servers and GM services online.

So how much is the discount?
MAGIC MUSHY ROOMS

The discount is being discussed at the moment, but many people here are agreeing that $7 or 50% of normal price sounds reasonable.
This proves that you haven't really been following closely, so i do advise you to read up on something before coming to conclusions.
Lol, yeah I'm sure that's what the playerbase thinks is reasonable.
In reality reasonable is what provides most revenue. 50% of normal price means they need to have double the customers than if they charged fully. Sounds far-fetched to happen at best.
