...fun.
i wouldn't take mechanics, savage endgame-content, or the likings of others tooooo serious - if its your first cls, choose one and start to enjoy Eorzea, have fun with the story, get in touch with sidequests like beastribes, chocobos, goldsaucer etc. And all this can be done with any cls. Later on you will see there are ways to raise other cls/jobs PRETTY PRETTY fast. so for now fuck off rotations, endgame party-constellations and pro-gamer opinions – just have fun exploring Eorzea by yourself.
thats what every "novice" should be looking for and not... the whole endgame mess up -
"playing this because of that" will catch you up anyway while gaining your "own" ingame-experience.

A lot of people switched to mch at february 2016, when he got some boost (including me). Before it was a new job, that required some learning, so many people continued to play brd. After boost mch became too good to ignore. Later brd got some boost too, but by that time people already leared mch and it turned out to be more mobile job that is better suited to raids, so I don't think that many machinists switched to bards back at that time.
I'm really interested to watch 2016 census by the end of the year.
P.S. I'm playing machinist now, so I'm biased in this discussion, can't give advice to OP. (try them all)
Yes, I am aware of those buffs to BRD and MCH. Looking forward to 2016 census as well ^^A lot of people switched to mch at february 2016, when he got some boost (including me). "BAAAAAARD!" - 2018
I had leveled up MCH to cap, back in Feb/March, and the damage output felt really lackluster, compared to SMN and DRG. Often times, i felt i was more a liability to my dungeon group, than an asset. Honestly, i'm hoping that it gets a really good rework in Stormblood, where the abilities feel alot more rewarding, and the combinations feel alot more rewarding. I think the 'RNG class'-thing was a gamble on SE's part, so it'll be interesting if they follow up and tweak the job, based on the amount of people actually making it their main job.A lot of people switched to mch at february 2016, when he got some boost (including me). They better not, or at least not too much. I especially like the RNG combo with ammunition (it feels really good to take a chance and hold onto your quick reload and use split shot to proc a slug then ammunition it to a clean). As far as damage output is concerned of course it will be a bit lower due to the fact that it's classed as a support roll but even then I'm not that far behind the rest of the team in raiding content if not right up there with them depending on the fight.
I just got my ninja to 60 in Palace of The Dead and it was the HARDEST thing I have ever played in an MMO. It's easy to play, but if you want to do it RIGHT, it's boderline insanity.

MCH is my absolute favorite, I really like the ammunition system. NIN is up there thanks to the mudras. DRG is probably the least for me but that's because it 'feels' slower, I'm sure it isn't at 60 but /shrugs.
MCH is a hyper-complex mess. DRG is complex, but once you get the hang of it, its easy. I hear NIN is easy.
