    PS3 -> PS4 conversion of Heavensward only

It may appear to be a dumb move, but say a service account has purchased both the PS3 and the PS4 versions of ARR, but has only purchased the PS3 version of Heavensward. Will that Heavensward purchase be able to convert to the PS4 version when Stormblood is released and the PS3 support is removed?

This is not my situation. It's just a question that occurred to me. I tend to think it's not something that will affect very many people.

so let me understand this corrently:

    - you bough arr version for ps3 and ps4.
-but you only got the ps3 version of heavensward.

That's a pretty confusing situation I don't have a clear answer, you might want to talk to SE tec support they might be able to answer directly.
only question I have is... why did you got heavensward for ps3 if you had a ps4?

The way it works as far as I recall if it's being done the same way is. You turn your PS3 HW into PS4 HW but you lose access to PS3 HW.

    To confirm:

"Purchase of the PlayStation®4 version is not required to upgrade. Please be aware that after transferring to the PlayStation®4 you will be unable to play using your current copy of the PlayStation®3 version."

but the thing is, he already has a copy of arr on ps4, will that make him unable to upgrade? or will his version of heavensward upgrade regardless?

I did a similar thing. HW was cheaper on PS3.

I am going to make a guess on how this should be done. Since it is probably not something that will affect enough people to be a big problem, I doubt the reps will have the time to respond.

My guess is quite simple. Just do the same conversion as you would be doing if you did not already have ARR on PS4. I believe that it has always been the case that if you buy a registration code that is good to make access to both base game and expansion(s), you can apply it to an existing account to activate expansion(s). An existing service account already has the base.

The process of conversion of PS3 to PS4 will produce a registration code that needs to be entered via the PS4 to activate both base and expansion on PS4. But if the base is already there, it will only activate the expansion. At least that is what I would hope to be the case.

Be aware though that if this is correct, the process will still completely remove all the access from PS3 on that service account. It will not just remove access to Heavensward from PS3.

This is still just a guess. I have no way to confirm it.

What I got from the Vegas Live Letter:

ANYONE with ANY PS3 FFXIV (ARR, HW, both or just one) will be forced into upgrading once 4.0 drops.

I have a different question about the upgrade. Is it going to be limited to PS4? Not everyone with the PS3 version either has or wants a PS4. I think if they're dropping PS3 support, they should allow PS3 players to transfer to any other supported platform.

That wont happen, once service ends for the PS3 they offer you only an upgrade to the newer Sony console.

Unlike Final Fantasy XI when service stopped for both PS2 and Xbox360 (all consoles dropped, Windows only) you got given the Windows client, but then again, in that MMO you could play on any supported platform no matter the version you registered first, all you needed was the installation discs or download.

Yes it would be nice to have an option to switch from PS3 to Windows or Mac, but why would they offer it to console players who never wanted to play on a PC in the first place.

Because they're taking away the platform those players chose to play on. The alternative is just take away their platform and kick them out of the game entirely unless they pay for it a second time, after they've already bought it. If I bought a game and was told, "well that's no longer valid, you'll have to buy it again before you can actually play it", I wouldn't trust that company enough to buy it a second time (or likely buy anything else from them either).

If they're going to drop support for a platform, they should offer the players who bought it the option to play on a different platform. You seem to think they'll do so selectively only for players who can and want to switch to PS4, but the dropped support has nothing to do with PS4. They should give players whose support they're dropping the option of whichever platform they want to switch to.
