Clue on Palace of the Dead for 3.45

According to Yoshida and Koji fox, they said there was a hint on who the boss is, and they hinted that it's from both Tactics and XII. My first guess would have to be Zalera. The appearance looks a bit similar to tactics, and the theme sounds like an esper battle theme from XII. Can't think of any other bosses that has a similar appearance.

Definitely some take on the necromancer Nybeth from Tactics Ogre: LUCT, whose series had an enormous influence on the Ivalice games and subsequently FFXIV. They outright played his theme song (who in turn shared primary composers, explaining the similarities in sound).

Many others pointed out he also looks like an FF11 Corse, who in turn is loosely based on FF1's Lich. Nybeth in his time in the Palace of the Dead / Hell Gate in TO has him transforming into a Lich himself, where he's fought as a possible final boss the massive super dungeon.

I wouldn't be surprised if they merged aspects of Scarmiglione into him as well, or vice versa, in an attempt to make it more Final Fantasy and natural to XIV instead of outright porting the character.

Nah, Nybeth is far more likely. Someone on Reddit pointed out they heard two specific Tactics Ogre themes (both of which are Nybeth's theme) in the Live Letter and the 3.4 trailer has Fog of Phantom playing in it. Nybeth's minions also regain their sanity once they're defeated, much like how Edda regained her sanity. Nybeth is also the 100th Floor boss in Tactics Ogres Palace of the Dead.

XII and FFT were only mentioned because Yasumi Matsuno is the link between those two games and Tactics Ogre.

Tactics Ogre, which they said if you haven't played it, you should, was what they were pointing out.
