Suggestion: 4.0 new gathering class? (Scavenger)

While the current meta is set in stone, I was wondering if there would be room for a fourth gathering class, a class that would benefit crafting but at the same time be profitable on it's own.

I'd like to see a Scavenger class. Main hand a shovel, off hand a portable detector.

You go around the world scavenging junk and other random unique "discarded items" and those can be desynthed by crafting classes into valuable materials, trade for scrips, or put on the market board. The Scavenger's guild lore would act as a bit of a pawn shop, or what ever that place is from the new Star Wars movie where you sell junk for coin.

Kind of got the idea from that movie, and since 4.0 has some desert landscape it would be a perfect place to place the guild... or it can be in Mor Dhona or something. Also borrowed some inspiration from Fallout 4 where half the game is just you scavenging junk to sell and build settlements with.

It would work similar to fishing, instead of water, you have tons of land to explore. So yeah, you're literally digging up junk, but the game will throw you a shiny bone once in a while and you might find something with a high value. Sometimes you might find a treasure chest, except those won't spawn monsters haha.

    I like it!

Maybe the gathering class could focus on scavenging Garlean parts from around the world if they didn't want to create a new system?

It could be part of the story quests, that would actually make things interesting. Heck, our guild could get us to scavenge the forbidden area of Cartenau (as an instance)... sneaking in there on the dead of night.

I'm sure it would take some time to develop the system, take the fishing mechanic and combine it with the treasure hunting mechanic so you're going around finding the "x" with your detector and dig until the spot runs dry and refreshes a few ticks later. I'm not really aware how far they are into development into 4.0 so far all we know a large chunk of the game might already be done.

Personally, when the topic of a new gathering class came to mind, I often think of it being incorporated as a Trapper/Hunter sort of thing. There's already a Trapper's Guild in the lore somewhere, and the chocobo hunters exist, so the prospect made me think of a system similar to Fishing where you'd be luring animals with bait and capturing them for skins, bones and meats. That way you can be supporting Culinarian, Leatherworker and other crafts that require bones in their recipes.

That's not to say that your idea doesn't have merit of its own though. I could certainly imagine it working in some regard, but the idea of having a detector to do the work for you might be a bit technologically advanced. On the other hand, Machinists exist so I'm sure the developers could do something with it.

What if instead of tools we used our chocobos and they could have an additional barding slot for talon digging enhancements? Something between gathering and treasure maps like the chocobo forest in IX?
