I highly doubt SE would do anything this complicated ... but man it would be awesome. Honestly, FC's really don't feel like anything but a giant chat room, sometimes. They just don't have enough game involvement. Company airships was a nice addition, but having some kind of PvP influence would be cool, even if it was something silly and minimal like holding a fort or planting an allied flag within a certain zone. There would definitely be room for it as well, seeing as how our FC's are allied to specific GC's. Currently, SE didn't really go anywhere with that, but it would be cool if they did.

Open World PvP, as in non-consensual PvP where anyone can target anyone, I don't want it. And I don't SE implementing it because FFXIV is initially PVE based game with a large PVE population that would either ignore the expansion, or would start complaining about their PvE expeience being ruined by PKers.

Now if it is consentual Open World PvP, as example such as Free company VS Free company that declare war on each other, sure why not, it's not like it would be any problem for the PvErs around.

So whats wrong with PvP Flags or switches that allow players to experience Open World PvP without having others PvE stuff interrupted? One thing SE WON'T do is make Open World PvP required for EVERYONE. Stop making it sound like it'll cripple your experience because I can tell you'll just never use it. If its for those who want it, they'll try it. If you don't, don't.

Throwing the idea away for others is rather selfish, and I highly doubt players would ignore the expansion. You can almost say the same about the Gold Saucer. Will players ignore the game now that they have that? NO. They won't. PvP is always a time spender in this game and open world PvP won't change that. Not to mention we may just get PvP servers all together. (Don't even think players won't be playing on PvE servers, what are alts for?)

Hmmm... From what I read here, peeps actually equates "open world pvp" with "anarchy pvp". In my world, open world pvp does not mean you can jump anyone, anywhere. Open world pvp, to me, is a system that assumes some kind of restriction (pvp flag, duel request, etc).

Maybe for someone who are not used to this concept, open world pvp translates to: Max leveld player can attack noobs anytime, anywhere. This is not what I think when I hear the phrase "open world pvp" in the mmo context. I naturally assume there are constraints. If no constraints are assumed, it equates to total anarchy. Noone wants that in FF14. This game will not survive total anarchy pvp (if I'm proven wrong I would actually love it).

See? 4 posts after mine. The PvE player base will not stand for anything pvp. Just look at how pissed they are that minions and mounts are locked behind pvp. Even though there are so many of both locked behind pve.

I personally loved the anarchy pvp svs in guild wars 2, but it's not all they offered. SE needs to create an area for pvpers to que up. Inside that area your lvl 60 with all skills unlocked, just like PoTD. That way they can raise the lvl 50 pvp to 60 and not force someone to completely lvl a job to find out if they like it in pvp. Hell you could even transfer some of the Xp earened to outside pvp and make it a leveling alternative. As for new pvp maps? How hard would it be to create an instance with camp dry bone or lil ala mhigo or or any other place for us to kill each other in?

I have to admit that, with the exception of all the PvE elitist nay-saying, I've been impressed by some of the open-world ideas I've seen here, especially in regards to FC involvement. As much as I think that any open-world PvP SE does implement would be relatively rudimentary and simple, it's fun to consider where it could go if they had the balls to shoulder the risk. I'm particularly interested in the idea of FC regions of influence (as in, my FC holds this turf and contributes to it's defense), and FC wars, rivalries, and alliances. Obviously, I don't think that PvP should be forced onto everyone, nor do I think that SE would EVER take that approach; however, I do think that allowing these kinds of interactions would be good for the community.

Firstly, PvP FC's would become a thing. Right now, people can recruit for practically any content, but there are only a handful of communities across the ENTIRE game which would consider themselves a PvP FC. No one approaches recruitment with that as their lead-in, so it would be nice to see this.

Secondly, I think it would go a long way to making our FC's and their GC affiliations relevant for things other than chat. Right now, our FC perks just don't stretch very far. There's also no FC system in-place for internal ranking (other than being assigned a meaningless rank by your leader), wages, or currencies. Instead of being a "Free-Company," we behave more like a frat house. Your importance within that frat-house is determined by your popularity, rather than your contribution. With PvP thrown into the mix, there's a justification for that to change.

I could see open-world PvP having a direct effect on your internal standing within your FC. To keep things fair for PvE'ers, a mirrored system would also be put in place for PvE content, essentially giving players a PvE rank, a PvP rank, and a Social Rank (what we have now). PvP and PvE ranks would be based on points scored within the duties you participate in. Likewise, you could also earn rewards for your FC, and could be paid a wage based on your contribution. For example, if your FC holds a certain territory, you participated in a duty as a member of your FC, or you beat a player from a rival FC, you could be rewarded according to your achievement. If your victory is scored against a player from a rival GC (say a Flame beats an Adder), then your GC pays a reward to your FC or you personally (depending on if you share the same affiliated GC as your FC). Even if the rewards are small (such as modest amounts of gill or GC seals), it would still be fun. It would also help grow the community by allowing players to strive for their FC/GC on a day to day basis, rather than just be a member and not give a crap about it.

Again, I don't expect SE to do ANYTHING nearly as complicated as this, but it's just a bit of speculative fun. Personally, I think it would make FC's and GC's more relevant and rewarding, and it would open the door to expanding what we can actually get out of them (such as defense boost in friendly territory/offensive boosts in enemy territory, etc).

Last game I played with incredibly imbalanced PVP was Aion. I don't want another Aion. Ganking aside, take a look at the community. p2p weeds out a lot of the toxic side, however the "There's no danger! I want competition!" and "lol casual scum git gud" crowd will come in full force. No thanks.

I love and keep throwing my gil at XIV because it's so casual and I like being able to run around and stare at vistas. Not being paranoid, stressed and downright scared as soon as I exit a sanctuary.

no matter how much you suggest this idea, its never going to happen.

this game is extremely casual and its community reflects that perfectly, why would something as out of place as pvp in this sort of environment make sense? besides, this game wasn't meant for pvp in the first place, the engine is god awful with animation locks and overall slow animation plus the community itself isn't even meant for pvp when they spend their whole limsa erp time here on the pvp forums complaining about exclusive rewards.

    this wont happen, period.
