I think this is actually a good idea, to be honest. Just... basic PvP flagging. Something online worlds have had for... 3 decades now, I think?

Do I want to attack and be attacked?
    • Yes → Flag on
    • No → Keep flag off (which it will be, by default, guaranteed)
And just don't allow any NPCs to be attacked or disrupted, because that's opening a giant barrel of wyrms for proxy PvP by disrupting PvE, and invariably results in malicious griefing.

I think this is a lot more effective idea than introducing dedicated PvP servers, which will very likely be DOA.

Honestly it really depends on your skill level. Obviously if you're challenging someone more seasoned that would be difficult. But as a person who pvps with BLM, I've taken out drgs, mnks, nins, and wars one on one. It's all about knowing what skills to use and when to use it. But for people who just start off pvp that will help you build your skill level by challenging melee.

I skipped the 4 pages just talking about the theme here

-world pvp similar to duel mode: great
-world pvp similar to FL: good
-a brand new pvp server: even much better if we can use old characters
-an independent pvp map for cross server/data center pvp: can try

I'd like to play in various maps rather than that symmetric shatter map lol

I like a more arcade feel when I pvp, action packed, more hit and run. PvP in this game isn't really like that. Requiring pve rotations and priorities in a pvp fight is boring imo. Instead of making a pvp zone that the pve players are going to complain about not being able to explore, I would much rather they "fix" current pvp, fix the pvp gear/reward system, and new match types.

Their new match types are bland copy pastes of their recent ones. Frontlines has an amazing looking map that no one rarely uses but the bases and the central area. Slaughter is basically, wait for nodes, hit them, hope your team don't get double teamed. Secure, same thing, now you get a bigger node at some point and a base that may or may not get captured for some points. Siege is get to the randomly spawning node for points and hope you don't get pummeled by the two teams. Yeah there's tactics to know when to gtfo but its not really a tactic if its a natural response to gtfo when your getting/about to get your ass handed to you by two teams. Sieze is Siege but cold and hit-able nodes that pop at random.....I've concluded they don't have any innovation when it comes to PvP.

If they did give us a Open World PvP server, the community would be given the torch for self sustaining PvP opportunities, including being ganked (cry me a river). What PvErs don't realize is when you have a PvP Server your more aware and open to your surroundings. Stressful you say? No shet sherlock, you can be ninja shanked in a split second, but thats thrill of it. When your daily routine of farming apricots suddenly gets interrupted after you notice a group sweeping the areas for targets, you freak the heck out and set off to a nearby town or get far enough to teleport and warn your buddies. Perhaps you had ninjas you payed for protection in the shadows just for this and ambushed the group. That's another thing about PvP communities. When your thrown into what seems like a chaotic cesspool players, communities form very quick if not from the start. Some small just to get around, some large for greater purposes like giving new PvPers a group of buds and some just to make your PvP experience be one to remember, for better or for worse.

Balances? Yep, PvP is imbalanced, and that makes it better. Do you not realize we need people to do just about anything in this game? So where's the same sympathy of BS for PvP? First off, don't wander alone, second, don't stand in the open, third, don't wander away from your group. Unless your really confident and don't have anxiety from pixels on a screen you can go off into the PvP over worlds alone. Healer against healer is impossible? DONT DO IT. Healer vs dps is a nightmare? DONT DO IT. Fluid Aura that jerk, run, bait purify and swiftcast sleep, gtfo. Gang of Dps got the drop on you, should have followed the friggen rules. Why are you alone!?

Another thing PvP Overworlds usually have is a karma system. Being good may not have anything but being a baddy could give you some punishing effects, not like making you weaker, but perhaps giving you a deeper death penalty, and if SE went the extra mile we could carry knocked out villain players and turn them in for points. This is how communities band together. Its not all black and white (in terms of PVE and PVP I mean). If they did add PvP Overworlds it'd do the game some good allowing it to grow more personality. Right now its grind for this to get that and that for this that'll come in the future and this for glamour. How about grinding to defend yourself from getting pummeled. Its alot more rewarding, but thats my opinion. /rant

I love the idea similar to Gw2. Fc's can hold forts/keeps. Use credits to purchase defenses etc.

I highly doubt SE would do anything this complicated ... but man it would be awesome. Honestly, FC's really don't feel like anything but a giant chat room, sometimes. They just don't have enough game involvement. Company airships was a nice addition, but having some kind of PvP influence would be cool, even if it was something silly and minimal like holding a fort or planting an allied flag within a certain zone. There would definitely be room for it as well, seeing as how our FC's are allied to specific GC's. Currently, SE didn't really go anywhere with that, but it would be cool if they did.

Open World PvP, as in non-consensual PvP where anyone can target anyone, I don't want it. And I don't SE implementing it because FFXIV is initially PVE based game with a large PVE population that would either ignore the expansion, or would start complaining about their PvE expeience being ruined by PKers.

Now if it is consentual Open World PvP, as example such as Free company VS Free company that declare war on each other, sure why not, it's not like it would be any problem for the PvErs around.

So whats wrong with PvP Flags or switches that allow players to experience Open World PvP without having others PvE stuff interrupted? One thing SE WON'T do is make Open World PvP required for EVERYONE. Stop making it sound like it'll cripple your experience because I can tell you'll just never use it. If its for those who want it, they'll try it. If you don't, don't.

Throwing the idea away for others is rather selfish, and I highly doubt players would ignore the expansion. You can almost say the same about the Gold Saucer. Will players ignore the game now that they have that? NO. They won't. PvP is always a time spender in this game and open world PvP won't change that. Not to mention we may just get PvP servers all together. (Don't even think players won't be playing on PvE servers, what are alts for?)

Hmmm... From what I read here, peeps actually equates "open world pvp" with "anarchy pvp". In my world, open world pvp does not mean you can jump anyone, anywhere. Open world pvp, to me, is a system that assumes some kind of restriction (pvp flag, duel request, etc).

Maybe for someone who are not used to this concept, open world pvp translates to: Max leveld player can attack noobs anytime, anywhere. This is not what I think when I hear the phrase "open world pvp" in the mmo context. I naturally assume there are constraints. If no constraints are assumed, it equates to total anarchy. Noone wants that in FF14. This game will not survive total anarchy pvp (if I'm proven wrong I would actually love it).
