    3.4 story explaination please?

I have some questions about 3.4 story if anyone knows the answer.

    1. How many years ago did the warriors of darkness defeat the Ascians as the warriors of light?

    2. If the warriors of darkness were the first group of warriors of light (which I think they might be if I remember dialogues right), who were the other groups of warriors of light before the current warrior of light main protagonist in the game?

    3. If the warriors of darkness are from another world, what world are they from?

    4. How come the warriors of darkness are in the old FF14 trailers where you see them sitting at a bar looking at levequest cards, a premonition by the warrior of darkness, and the warriors of darkness fighting in scenes such as in the Battle of Carteneau that take place in the world of the game and not the world where the warriors of darkness come from (unless they are one and the same)?

    5. Why did Hydaelyn make the light too bright in the world where the warriors of darkness came from?

    6. How come Hydaelyn claimed before that the Ascians won each cycle, when Hydaelyn was able to make the light really bright where the warriors of light come from?

    7. Why did Urianger wait for both the warriors of darkness and the warrior of light+friendly npc's to keep on killing each other and then pull out their crystals before summoning Hydaelyn? Did he summon a primal by using everybody's crystals?

    8. Why did Hydaelyn ignore the warriors of darkness when they asked her to please dim the light?

    9. Where did the warriors of darkness go after they asked Hydaelyn to take them home and they were turned into little dots?

    10. How come no one confronted Aymeric, the warrior of light, or Alphinaud for throwing the eyeballs of Nidhogg downstairs? Their stupid act allowed the Ascians to get new eyeballs.

I think the best explanation I have seen is Anonymoose's in this thread.

    1. Unknown.

    2. The Warriors of Darkness were former Warriors of Light from a different world. We have no information on Warriors of Light from previous eras.

    3. Yes; they are from the First Reflection.

    4. It's implied the party in the trailers is on the Source, our world; the ones we encountered in-game are alternate universe versions of them.

    5. It's not Hydaelyn's fault; excising all Darkness naturally leads to a Flood of Light. She sent Minfilia there to fix it.

    6. See 5 above.

    7. Urianger's gambit was to force Hydaelyn to free Minfilia by using our and the Warriors of Darkness' Crystals of Light, and Minfilia would then be sent to the First Reflection to deal with the imbalance of Light. This was achieved by having us clash with them until they attempted to flee to the interstice between worlds using their Crystals; we effectively used our own to piggyback on their trip and call up Hydaelyn at the same time.

    8. Unknown. It's either that She's too weak to do anything about it, is incapable of intervening in the physical world, or (like with us post-2.0) She could not hear them.

    9. They returned to the First Reflection, but as a consequence of the method they used to get here (i.e. Ascian-style planeswalking, which requires physical death) were absorbed back into the lifestream. In other words, they're dead.

    10. It was a decision made in the heat of the moment. Dragon eyes are known to be bad things, and hanging onto Nidhogg's any longer than we really needed to would be inadvisable after Estinien ended up getting possessed. Nobody expected them to come back after being thrown into the gaping chasm the Steps of Faith bridges - so soon, least of all.

Thanks for all the clarifications, they help a lot.

I wonder what was the purpose of having alternate universe versions of the warriors of darkness though, and I think they are also from different time periods, so if it is alternate universe it must be different than the synchronous timeframe type of alternate universe we see in most fiction.

The different worlds aren't exact copies by the sound of it. Basically the 14 separate worlds were created back long ago and since then have been developing along their own paths independently. Its highly likely Midgardsormr and Unukalhai are both from reflection worlds originally and we know Unukalhai's world turned out very different to our own.

The WoD were effectively originally WoL from their own world. Since the Ascians are active on all reflection Worlds, there are WoL that rise on all those worlds too. In the case of the WoD they drove the Ascians from their world but the problem is it created an imbalance that threatened to engulf their world. Their actions in 3.4 are a desperate measure, not even to save their world, but to just save the souls of those who dwelt on their world by returning all those souls to the Lifestream of the Source.

Time itself is probably synchronous between the worlds, but because they split into alternate realities a long, long time ago there is undoubtedly some divergence in culture and people. Darklander doesn't seem to recognize Minfilia, for instance. As our stand-in during trailers and cinematics, Derplander is highly likely to be very familiar with her. So there is no Minfilia analogue on the First Reflection.

The only question then is why they have the same naming schemes as our cultures, but asking such questions is not wont to provide answers. Probably not best to dwell on it.

    Fanfest lore panel spoilers:
This was answered in the lore panel: they don't. The names the WoD use were names they adopted after coming to our world to blend in. Oda-san and Koji basically confirmed that the shards worlds have developed separately from the Source. They have different cultures, languages, magics/jobs (and presumably history) than our world.

Only the audience was shown Elidibus handing Nidhogg's eyes over to the Griffin. The characters don't realize the eyes were already retrieved by the Warriors of Darkness.

I'm aware, but we still made that decision in the heat of the moment and don't expect the Eyes to come back.

We'll start beating ourselves up when we learn that Ilberd the Griffin got his hands on them and is up to some nefarious end using them.
