It kinda would be, yes. Red Mage had been part of Final Fantasy since there very first game 29 years ago and its feathered hat and rapier are considered very very very iconic.
It would definitely piss off the red mage fans and possibly the dancer fans as well.
Just gonna chime in to say a person is entitled to draw lines in the sand if they so choose. Whether said lines mean anything in the greater scheme of things is a different matter (the answer is "no").What I'm referring to, what utterly baffles me, is declaration that if a certain new class is a certain role, then that is unacceptable, is somehow objctively the "wrong" role for that class, and is cause for the player making the declaration to quit the game. Without even waiting to see what the class is like or exactly how it fits into its role; the idea of X class being Y role is simply unacceptable.
"If they make the egregious mistake of making Dancer a DPS, then I am done with this stupid game." <-- not an exact quote from any one person, of course, but THAT'S the mentality I'm talking about.
Well, the hat was there since the first FF. The rapier is a more recent addition, but suits the aesthetic of the job incredibly well. And helps make them stand out from the fighters.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
A quote from something I posted earlierit is doing good things for the devs by keeping the hype train rolling by our own doing, people are talking about stormblood, so of course they won't correct us until we have all of the information.
D.N. Dancer Best Dancer!
Genie Dancer Best Dancer!
NecroDancer best Dancer :O
Fighter Dancer best Dancer!

I think the girl in the trailer is a dancer at the beggining and then switch to monk.
But if the Devs want us to speculate about it instead of just saying "she is a monk/she is something else" than isnt this whole tread contra productive because the thread wants us to stop speculating on it?
I am not really a final fantasy fan since I only played two games of the franchise so I am not familiar with dancer. I would be okay if she is a dancer of if she is a monk but I always find a nice speculation fun.
After reading through the thread both sides makes sense in some way so I am kinda looking forward to knowing who was right in the end. It was kinda telling, watching a life reaction to the trailer, that a lot of people cheered when they saw the girl at the beginning, so its seems that it was done that way to create such a reaction. If it was just out of a little trolling fun or because it was a tease for things to come will be seen.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
youre absolutely right, the trailer of the official trailer ends off how they intended it - to troll us and cause these discussions, youre right about that one This isnt even the ful thing, just the first 2 minutes of it for sureAfter reading through the thread both sides makes sense in some way so I am kinda looking forward to knowing who was right in the end. Damn, you are right. Altough it would have been hard to give anyone an iconic weapon in the NES era. It was still present and equipable by the red mage in FFI tough. You know what would be cool now? Gun rapiers. The gun part could help channel the black magic spells. Ala Mhigo WAS famous for its magitech even before the Garlean occupation. And it would be interesting if Red Mage actually benefited from the Garlean Rule. A nice twist to the story.Just gonna chime in to say a person is entitled to draw lines in the sand if they so choose. Yeah Yoshie-P did say that there is a much much longer version for the trailer. I'm guessing it was cut for the same reason the HW trailer was. (Massive x.5 spoilers)
I always thought the general consensus was that this was a monk?
I want a dancer too (very badly) but I would assume since Yoshi said it was two monks fighting (with two folks employing martial arts), and the expansion class story was monk, that pretty much meant...two monks fighting?
They had the same type of clip for Heavensward when it came out. Derplander became a dragoon and fought alongside Estenien (sp) and this expansion focused on Dragoon.
Yoshi stated this next expansion focused on monk with derplander becoming a monk and fighting alongside...a monk

Look at it this way:
- They didn't want to spoil the surprise, that would reveal two jobs (Red Mage wasn't confirmed but it's pretty much guessed as one of the new Jobs by the Shirt Yoshi used) at one Fan Fest leaving only one left to reveal, which will probably happen in December Fan Fest and another at European Fan Fest next year.
- They didn't want to reveal the class as it will probably be a spoiler for 3.5 content
- It's not the first time Square makes trailers with deceiving content
- It can simply be a Dancer (Important NPC) training with the Derplander without revealing it's true identity for obvious reasons, which i mentioned above.
Now there's the trailer "Monk" girl:
And here's an image of the dancer job:
See any similarities?
