Yes, but that's not quite what I mean. You're talking about whether you find each job fun to play or not, and (from your list of classes you tried, which doesn't include ANY HW jobs), about changes that 3.0 made to 2.0 jobs.

What I'm referring to, what utterly baffles me, is declaration that if a certain new class is a certain role, then that is unacceptable, is somehow objctively the "wrong" role for that class, and is cause for the player making the declaration to quit the game. Without even waiting to see what the class is like or exactly how it fits into its role; the idea of X class being Y role is simply unacceptable.

"If they make the egregious mistake of making Dancer a DPS, then I am done with this stupid game." <-- not an exact quote from any one person, of course, but THAT'S the mentality I'm talking about.

Indeed, I was more just offering insight
I did not include Heavensward jobs, because I don't like any of the 3. I have AST at 60, but it's my least favourite of the 3 healers. I am not a fan of tanking, but prefer DRK to WAR and PLD to DRK (from what I've played of it). I have always disliked MCH thematically, but was unable to even level it to 31 when I tried to give it a chance.

I guess I should note that I have tried all the jobs in the game. I did not list WAR, MNK, DRG, DRK, AST, MCH not due to not trying, but simply because I do not like them (and thus I never mained them).

I get what your saying here, and I agree. Ultimatums are generally childish and this is the epitome of that. I imagine most people who say this will not actually quit, and I also imagine that Square Enix ignores these. So, in essence, we can pretend they don't exist

some people don't like the pressure of being tank/heal, and some people like to feel important instead of "just another dps"
this is also where the negative stereotype of each roles player comes from: dps mains being selfish and dying a lot because they feel like they can do whatever, and tank/heal mains with egos way too inflated to work with their team
i'm sure there are plenty of people who ONLY play one role EVER EVER EVER who aren't assholes, but i got sidetracked and don't really know if i even explained right

It seems mostly right, at least stereotypically within the more casual side of the game. At worst, tanks and healers are role-fixated and don't grasp the meta, but the assumption is DPS don't care to have responsibilities at all, let alone weave them in appropriately for maximum performance.

I'm just of the opinion that no one should be able to escape responsibilities, largely through increased difficulty and coordination and cross-role synergies, even if that means blurring the roles a bit. Might just end up with shorter queues and fewer lazy or short-sighted players.

Just gonna chime in to say a person is entitled to draw lines in the sand if they so choose. Whether said lines mean anything in the greater scheme of things is a different matter (the answer is "no").

Well, the hat was there since the first FF. The rapier is a more recent addition, but suits the aesthetic of the job incredibly well. And helps make them stand out from the fighters.

    * The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
