Well, Seal Rock was beach, cavern and green plains.
Borderland Ruins was green mountains with a hint of Allagan flavor in the middle.
Wolves Den uses the same scenery as Hall of the Novice does.
And all of them kinda died out because there's not enough players to sustain them in addition to Feast and Shatter. Heck, even those two are scarcely "alive". I have serious doubts open world PvP, which in my experience is LESS popular or at least populated than instanced PvP, would be any different, regardless of how they designed it. That's why I mentioned earlier the only kind of open world PvP I could see successfully implemented is a PvP that doesn't "feel" like PvP.
