Honestly most of Dragoon jokes I have heard come from Dragoon's themselves don't think I have ever seen anyone get upset over them.
Honestly most of Dragoon jokes I have heard come from Dragoon's themselves don't think I have ever seen anyone get upset over them.
i've been main dragon almost exclusively since 1.2ish, and never experienced ppl trying to kill me or any other drg, to make jokes.
i hardly ever see any drg jokes anymore, at all. actually lolnin jokes are more common, and that's very rare, too.
it's not as big an issue anymore, but before, all jump attacks locked you in position, so you couldn't move anywhere, and usually drg died to AOEs, cause they couldn't avoid them, because jump animation; now you can move around during spineshatter and dragonfire, but you're still locked during Jump...which is still killing me occasionally...such as using jump, and sophia using Aero III, you get locked, then knocked out of platform. But, I see the jokes so often on this forum and, to tell you the truth, I don't really understand them. I've never noticed Dragoons in my parties being any worse (or better) than other players. So, I don't really understand the joke.
It seems like a weird thing to discriminate about.
It's almost like they timed those AOEs, to correspond to jump CD, so if you spam them, you'll always die by those AOEs.
I hate the Naul jokes far more than loldrg jokes. i just blacklist anyone who does it. there's a special place in hell, for ppl who do those.

From what I gathered the meme of the "lolDRG" like other things in XIV, originates in XI, where DRG has as another gimmick a pet wyvern. I think from all the threads whining about XIV SMN not being XI summoner where the summons do the most damage has led be to believe that was the case for ALL pet classes in that game and that it includes DRG. The problem is...the wyvern apparently dies too often to be of use and its summon was originated tied to a 2 hour cooldown, so that means that most of the time the DRGs were dead weight and thus the butt of jokes
In this game though DRG is not a pet class, but because the devs from XI and whatever cruel sense of humor they had carried over to XIV they were marred with 3 factors that further pushed the meme.
With that said I'd think that hindering the DRG just to make jokes at their expense, potentially causing a wipe and wasting everybody;s time (especially if this was in palace of the Dead where there are no do-overs) counts as Griefing and thus falls under Harassment as a votekick option and possibly a reporting reason as well.
- It's armor is more for aesthetic purposes, it was not supposed to be a tank but only slightly less fragile then the Melee DPS, however they took the fragility too far when Magic was concerned
- Animation lock from the Jumps as well as having to snapshot the original position for Jump means that using that attack carries a high rish as that snapshot is use for targeting reference. This only affects the basic Jump attack but the Jumps that actual do move were not without animation lock issues and their own risks (Try using Elusive Jump in The Navel for example)
- The enemy Ai and Latency. Thought the point of the tank is to distract the mobs the devs coded them (bosses particularly) to be a little smarter than that and thus have them occasionally attack other players with AoEs. They are usually avoidable...provided your internet connection is good. The extent of this probable for other classes is only Limited to landslide but when playing DRG and thus using Jump for extra damage the problem becomes more compounded

This is an ingame joke and as long as it is done with no "wrong intentions" and just as a bit of fun, then it is fine. I normally play healers but recently i levelled a DRG and am doing end content with it. Now i understand perfectly, for me it is mainly due to the Jump animation. If u are around a boss, you want to maximize dps doing rotation, u press Jump, quick boss aoe/cone/tank turns boss ... You are screwed
Also i believe that even SE kind aproves of this as well as the majority of the community. The proof is that in event going on right now, on the goodie-bags one of the gifts were like these "Job stickers" - representations of everyclass (imagine the picture of you class when you go to PoTD), and the dragoon representation shows him "tanking the floor"

Tbh, the ones who crack the most DRG jokes nowadays are SE themselves. Nothing wrong with the DRG jokes, they are part of the game now after 2.0-2.1 landslide.
However, it is not OK if people try to kill you just to make a joke about it, but are you sure they try to kill you or that they aren't just bad players?
Learn, explore, and think for yourself. Make your choices, take actions, and let yourself be free.
I mained DRG for all of 2.0 and most of 3.0 and have never had any of the behavior the OP speaks of...
Sorry lol drg will always have a place in my heart because of this short:

Eh there are more Lala jokes than dragoon jokes but you don't see us screaming discrimination or racism :P
'lolDRG' is basically the singular most defining element of FF14's 'culture.'
If it dies, it'll be as if FF14 never truly lived.
I'm afraid that, for the greater good, you'll just have to keep managing that floor aggro.
Strange because SE themselves love to use the joke. In that one titan video it was the dragoon that died and got the loot and it seems that they even used this joke with the fanfest stickers. I have nothing against jokes, but if someone really tries to kill someone just to be able to use one than its sad and should stop..But I also never saw this happening in all my time playing the game which does not mean that it doesnt happen but maybe there is more reason to this? (We only know one side, maybe that person was a jerk?)
In our FC we make way more jokes about Lalas and BLM. Especially the latter since our own BLM love to stand in aoes.
Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
