It's as if it's 2016 and changes are much easier to implement now or something, compared to 10+ years ago.I don't get why people are so happy about this. They did this with FFXI when they dropped the Xbox360 and PS2. It was more of a console server issue. In other words, the game was not visually enhanced in any way, what so ever. It was merely just to help with a server issue. And surprise, there is mention of increased server capacity shortly after 4.0. Don't expect to have brand new amazing character visuals everyone is clamoring for.
To be serious it's really quite simple why players are happy; they want the game to grow! Even small QOL changes will make a large impact. I honestly doubt most people taking about graphical overhauls are expecting a miracle (Aside from High Quality Textures). Do you think holding on to obsolete hardware is better for the lifespan of the game?
I read many opinions on forums, but never was someone talking about graphics. This is about features people want and them thinking the ps3 was holding the game back in their opinion. Imo this is good for the game and now very old pc are replacing the ps3 as the minimum requirement, because while the ps4 isn't that strong, it is still better than some old pc people i know play on. Everything has to move forward at some point, despite the fact that some people may not have the money to afford better hardware any time soon.I don't get why people are so happy about this. Butt sliders, better looking egis, hi-res textures are some of the graphical things people are talking about in this thread. All of these things can exist even if the PS3 is still supported. My point is dropping the PS3 support is more of a benefit to a server issue, as well as a financial benefit for Square Enix. I think people are going to over hype themselves into believing what an actual impact this will make to their visual gameplay.
I still think the ps3 was holding us back... Like the same old animations for X skills ( because the ps3 hadn't enough memory to got more ?)
And yeah better textures will Come, for sure.
Your funny. You can get a decent gaming pc for 500 dollars. Such as an Asus Ibuypower, on Cyber Monday you catch one on ebay for around 350.Originally Posted by LineageRazor;3892700.
Removing support for PS3 happened for one reason, and one reason only: It was determined that the costs for developing for the platform were less than the income flowing in from the PS3 players. That is all. Sorry to burst your bubble, folks, but what we have is the framework that the game will continue to be developed under until the day they close down the servers for good - and not because of PS4, but because of older PCs.
But, hey - dream on, you starry-eyed dreamers!
I literally just got a PS4 a couple months ago and just re-obtained the license for FF14 on it two DAYS ago. Wow, what timing! So, I guess the news that the platform I no longer play the game on is no longer supporting the game doesn't affect me in the slightest, now. I mean, they told us they were going to do this a very long time ago, they just moved the schedule up one expansion... At least they waited for the PS4 to come down considerably in price! And once the new one comes out, it'll probably go even lower.
Also, with the PS4, I don't have to drag my ethernet cable across the room every time I want to play now, and the graphics are better and the movements are smoother and the visual lag has gone down and... it's just so much better.
Go away, just go.
That is because FFXI was always developed with the PS2 as the leading platform, using the PS2 development tools (even now, in 2016). So they couldn't actually improve any visuals without rewriting the client from scratch, basically. Shutting down the console servers was more of cost saving decision than anything else in that case. The situation is different for XIV, so adding things that were constrained by PS3 memory issues before (like bringing back party buff display, for example) is technically feasible. Whether or not it will actually happen, is another question, of course.
No they can't, because they wouldn't have worked with the PS3, and the devs have said already that they want everyone's experience to be roughly the same so there wouldn't be for example HD textures for PC only while PS3 still has to use the current ones.
That's why the PS3 going away is giving people hope, that's all
And then you have other visual things that were reportedly the PS3's limits' fault, like how much detail they could put into every hairstyle and the like, which will no longer be a concern now.
