I don't think it was the prime reason no, one of the reasons yes. Sorry as well didn't think about what I said until after I was away from my computerNone of which is relevant for them dropping support.
If 40-50 percent of the game's players were playing on PS3, they would not be dropping it - would not be cutting off at least 35% (assuming some upgraded) of the revenue stream from the game. Very few people still play on PS3, not enough to justify the cost of continuing to develop and update the client for it, THAT is why they are dropping it.
PS3 limitations going away are a nice side benefit, but you're deluding yourself if you think that those limitations are the only, or even the prime, reason for dropping support.
