32bit is done also - finally a proper high spec build coming our way

They didn't confirm this, but only strongly encouraged people to upgrade to 64 bit. Odds are 32bit will still be supported, just at a reduced rate. It isn't holding back development nearly to the extent the PS3 was.

They need to clarify if the ps3 support drop will be only for 4.0 content or for the whole game, like, keeping 2.0 and 3.0 active for PS3 players.

They said they will support PS3 until Stormblood but drop it entirely thereafter. You will have to upgrade (for free) to PS4.

If they change the IU, inventory system and lots of other things that is univeral and NOT tied to old content, then the PS3 can't play the old content either with the new updates.

If they revamp the battle system with new skills, animations that are PS4/PC oriented, PS3 can't handle that even in old content.

As a ps3 player it's a bit sad to see people really happy that other people might no longer be able to play. But i do understand that there were restriction caused by keeping the support so i won't say i don't understand partially, just remember that this might hurt more people then help . Luckily got a ps4 for my birthday so hope I'll be able to switch soon especially if we're getting a free upgrade.

We're not happy that PS3 players are being left behind... We're happy the game can finally move forward in many ways. And there's no way dropping the PS3 will hurt more players than it will help.

At 299 and a Summer release. If you were to put away 10 dollars a week from your paycheck, you will have enough to buy a PS4 before the expansion comes out. Think of things you might buy, coffee, snacks, smokes, cut back on anything of the sorts and before you know it you'll have the cash to upgrade to enjoy the expansion.

It's hilarious, all the improvements folks are slavering for that will never happen. Not as long as this game is held back by the PC market anyway.

Wha? Held back by PC? Totally backwards, you say? Not at all. Remember that SE wants to cast as wide a net as possible to keep as wide a playerbase as possible. That means keeping the game playable on older PCs - even ones less powerful than PS3. If they improve the game in the way folks in this thread are suggesting, they'll lose a lot of players. Not everyone can afford to upgrade their PC every year, or even every ten years. Making this game bleeding edge was one of the critical mistakes they made with the 1.0 release. They're certainly going to play it a lot more conservatively from this point on.

There will not be seamless zones. There will not be hosts of new UI features added. There will not be notable improvements of any kind - at least, not any that were "held back" by PS3. Just more of the same. That is my prediction.

Removing support for PS3 happened for one reason, and one reason only: It was determined that the costs for developing for the platform were less than the income flowing in from the PS3 players. That is all. Sorry to burst your bubble, folks, but what we have is the framework that the game will continue to be developed under until the day they close down the servers for good - and not because of PS4, but because of older PCs.

PS3 released in 2006 with 512 megs of RAM. Modern $200 phones come with 2 gigs. The PS3 is weaker than a modern high end phone, nevermind a PC of any sorts that came out in the last 7-8 years.

Plus the minimum PC specs are also going to be increased. Nice try PS3 fans though.
