Tank Etiquette Between Tanks in Raids

I have had a few occasions where I am in a raid duty where you have more than one tank in the party/raid. I go as tank, and I am the one that pulls the boss. Now, I think its common sense and that if no one says anything, and you are the first tank to get aggro, you keep MT, and the other should take a backseat to it, get on their dps stance or remove your tank stance if you dont have a dps stance at that level, and if you have dps combos that dont generate emnity, use those. I guess WAR is excusable to certain extent since highest potency combo is Butcher's Block combo and PLD is also excusable when at a level before getting their late dps skills.

Heres the thing though. I was in a Void Ark run as DRK and I pull the first boss, and Im MTing it, only for a PLD to steal aggro from me after me holding it about a good 15 seconds since fight started. I did at least two Power Slash combos on the boss, and after the first jump the boss does, he takes aggro, which I can only assume he voked and/or had shield oath with fight or flight and spamming his RoH combo. So whenever something like this happens, I take my tank stance off and let that person MT, to avoid having the boss go back forth between us. If you want to MT that bad, fine, just say so or pull first, and Ill let you.

I realize this isnt a big deal in stuff like Void Ark, but as a tank, am I the only one that gets annoyed by that when you are clearly MTing? I have had that happened to me a number of times before and I do not say anything, but this time I said in alliance chat that its not polite to do that and also sub-optimal, but I was responded rudely by a bangwagon people expressing their disbelief to what I said and "*cringe*". I get its just Void Ark, its dead easy and maybe nobody cares about tank etiquette in such an easy place, but I like to give my best at everything I do, and I still get annoyed by that. Goes without saying though that in harder content, OTing in tank stance and/or trying to take aggro/voking when there is no need to is just bad.

    Thoughts?

lol yeah, always the same. they are staying there like forever, the whole raid is waiting but nobody pulls. and then finally one of the tank pulls and the other 2 start fighting him for aggro... these 24-people raids will never change xD

I get annoyed by moments like that. I let them grab it and stance swap. I always greet ASAP and ask who wants what role. If nobody replies, I MT unless someone pulls something like what you said.

Pretty much. Tanks really like fighting each other for aggro on the boss, even when adds are killing their team, in the 24 man raids.

I'll play devil's advocate on this one and say if you plan to mt, or accept mt as your role, keep hate. That's not saying try to keep hate from tank stance tanks but keep it from me in ot stance. I did a labrynth run last night and went as pally. I turned sword oath on and went ham with my DPS rotations (lol) I stole hate on the final boss, twice. Not saying this was your circumstance, but I've seen this a few times.

Because of this, I really don't Tank 24-man raids unless theres adds around, or I'm the best geared out of the 3 tanks. I hate the aggro tug or war that most pug tanks will do (unless the boss has a tank swap mechanic theres no reason you should be voking.) Honestly, one of the main reasons I started tanking was to get away from terrible DF tanks.

Though I do remember this one VA run I did, where I was tanking most the run, nothing different. All of a sudden the Paladin decided to run to final boss and tank him. "Alright." I thought. "I've been tanking most of the run, suppose I can DPS and take adds."

Dies not even 10 seconds later ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I /cheer on the other tank and wait for a response w/o tank stance on. If he does not move then I charge in (tank stance) and switch it off once he starts attacking.

I'm learning to be a better OT, as I'm used to being MT since 2014 when I hit Lv50 as PLD and WAR. Anywho, from what I understand, an OT tank's high potency attacks come from their enmity-building combos. If he's in dps stance, and the MT is in tank stance, hate should not be stolen. Some problems occur if the MT decides to drop his tank stance just as the OT may have used offensive buffs plus the enmity combo. If an OT is to dps, he should STILL use all his attacks and abilities except Provoke, Flash, Unleash, and Overpower.

This happens to me in Void Ark as well, but it's usually the other tanks being in tank stance. If I'm the only DRK, and we are standing there for a few seconds, I assume I'll be MT due to lack of OT utility that PLD and WAR have. However, if I pull, then the other tank take aggro, I immediately drop my tank stance. I don't like competition for hate control.

I'm not bothered by it. I mean, I prefer to MT, but as I noted above, I'm not going to fight for it. In a Void Ark run last night, I went as DRK (I flagged my Beast Tribes quests as DRK, so I just queued the Mentor Roulette as DRK and got into Void Ark). I MT'd every main boss. Then, we get to Echidna, and I'm then met with competition from the WAR who was into Defiance and Provoked. I simply dropped Grit and disengaged. Found out later that his group dared him to take aggro off me. Joke's on them lol...

Yeah, I'm generally good at keeping hate as I never drop my stance in the 24-man raids (waaaaaay too much dps coming in on the boss lol). That said, if I see you were in tank stance, or you Provoked (even with Shield Oath and you got the boss's attention), I'm dropping tank stance immediately.
