Person A is hardcore, was Omni-50 during 2.x and has been Omni-60 since 3.0/3.1. Has gained everything from the GS, has multiple zodiac and anima weapons, has the minions, the mounts, a house, etc. For them, they could feel the game is kinda stale. They have been doing the same thing for some time now. They have few progression paths open to them, and they all have weekly lockouts which retard their progression towards their goals. After Wednesday, they gave nothing of personal value to work towards. They are more likely to say the game is boring and needs work.

Player B is less hardcore. They may have attained 50 on one (1) or a few jobs in 2.x and have zero (0) jobs at 60 or a few. They have jobs to level, they could go do stuff in the GS towards the turtle or fenrir or the dances, etc. They could go and do quests, basically, all or most progression paths are currently open to them. They are more likely to say the game is great as it is.

It is simply a matter of perspective based upon your own personal needs/wants and the ability of the game to satisfy them.
Well said. One thing that makes a good strength and weakness of FFXIV is that it has widespread content that appeals to a wide variety of players.

For example, when I started, I LOVED the class to job system. I really liked that it forced you to play other classes and learn them a little bit to unlock jobs. It resulted in my getting most of the jobs to 50 as I tried each out. I loved that it gave a spec feel to the classes, most notably from Arcanist to SCH/SMN. I thought this was a great design and was anxiously waiting for them to make varied job paths for other classes (i.e. GLD to a DPS class please!). Then came the announcement that they were abandoning classes all together, and all new jobs would be released as jobs. This was highly disappointing for me, and not at all what I was expecting. However, a great many players agreed with this direction. Since that time, the path progression of classes to be unique, have specs etc has ventured further and further away from what originally drew me to this game.

While the game itself is quite good, it's hard to have a direction given that appeases everyone. With having content that is so widespread in target audiences, it's virtually impossible to add content or take direction that doesn't clash with one's playstyles.
