    Meters

After months of playing FF14 I finally did my first pvp match, an 8 on 8 feast, for Wondrous Tails. I had a blast, was the only healer when I saw my team had none and a monk and machinist defended me for most of the match when people came after me. My team won and I was surprised when I get a read out for damage and healing done during the match.

Why would a damage and healing recount be in a PvP match and a meter system not exist for the PvE content? As far as I can tell people yell about poisonous players when people aren't pushing as much as others think they should.

Some people disagree with meters but overall I think they are helpful and I think they be implemented but with limitations.
    • A personal DPS and HPS meter that shows hits, crits, misses, average hit, average crit, and total damage done.
    • An option to turn on sharing the meter information with other players in the same group. This option should be disabled by default.
    • When queued up for any random or specific dungeon, this meter is not able to be shared except for other players that you have queued with.

The goal would be to share with only people you want to share with so you can compete against friends. While at the same time not share with random people and create a poisonous experience for players who are learning their class or may just not be as good at the game.

Currently, although against the ToS, players can abuse a third party program and track everyone's healing and damage and use that information to be poisonous. I've seen people want to kick other players from a dungeon because they are pulling low damage and when I confront them about how they are tracking that I get the "I'm watching combat log and seeing their average hits" excuse. I'd like SE to put something in place that would allow the folks who want to share information be allowed in game and help those who want to have their information blocked as to not be judged as how much damage or healing do you bring to the group. Then they could block the third party app and those people can go find another system to be poisonous with.

There are already threads discussing this; you could have made your points in one of them instead. Was it really necessary to make yet another one?

not much new stuff to discuss, SE has stated we won't get add ons because people will make parsers and abuse players over them.

and SE so far has decided they see more harm than good comming from them so they are currently not allowed.

other than that you can discuss back n forth over them in which case i will be in the back ground with popcorn

So before I created a new thread, I looked for a suggestion thread. Doesn't exist. Only a website suggestion thread does and that's filled with some in game and out of game suggestions along with a ton of GM recognition threads.

So I figured General would be good. I checked the first 6 pages of thread titles which is for the last four days of active threads in General.

Didn't see anything regarding this. Although I did assume others have posted something in here already, I didn't feel like tracking down any further threads then what I had already did.

So to make it simple and put my thoughts out there, yes I created a new thread. I don't really see how a new thread about a topic that has been discussed before is a bad thing to bring up. Sorry if you have a seen a few of these. Mostly I would suggest not reading them then if it's a bother.

The reason they don't have a parser available is the same reason all of their stats and gear are super bland: they don't want any player to "feel left out" for underperforming or not having something.

I don't like it but that's how it is I guess. I've started lowering my expectations for the game kekeke.

Say wut? It doesn't need to be on the front page. It goes to the front page once you post in it.

There you go. I did it for you. You're welcome. Over a hundred pages of goodness where people just go round n round in circles beating up that poor mush that used to be a horse. \o/

As an aside, I believe this is slightly inaccurate. IIRC, SE has said they do not want to add a parser themselves because in their view doing so would indicate a "right" way to play the game and create a more hostile environment for worse performing players. They don't want this, so they won't add a parser.

I don't recall hearing much about add-on support recently, but I strongly suspect ffxiv isn't getting mods for the same reason Fallout 4 isn't getting mods on the PS4. I do recall the devs saying they want to maintain the same experience on all platforms, meaning no mechanical advantages (allowed by the TOS) for a given platform. So, in theory, they could have a whole subsystem for mods already present, but they would leave it inactive until they could make sure mods would run on all systems. However, if Sony won't support mods for ffxiv running on the PS4 (much less the PS3) then no one gets them. What precisely the problem is could be anything. It could be SE has to thoroughly check each and every mod that it doesn't crash the game, cause corruption, display something that changes the age rating above M, insults Sony, etc. It could be Sony demands that all mods fall within a certain memory range and are available on PSN. It could be Sony is asking for more money that SE is willing to pay for free-range mod support. But one way or another, I'm gonna chalk add-ons not being a thing to the SE-Sony relationship in conjunction with SE's policy of the same experience across platforms. (if someone does have a reference to recent add-on discussions, then please direct me to it)

"An option to turn on sharing the meter information with other players in the same group. This option should be disabled by default."

Problem with this is people will require that you have it on share in PF/RF and will kick you otherwise.

How is that different than people using the third party client? The only difference I see is that the current system allows them to use it, when breaking ToS, without your knowledge. With something in game you can choose to either group with them or not based on that information up front.
