An invisible shield would look rather...awkward.

This has already been asked for and they said they don't want to do it. Instead they said they'd consider adding smaller shields.

That said I'm really on the fence about invisible shields. If you're one of those people that goes shirtless or whatever then it would look weird blocking a sword with your bare arm, but if you're in armour it's entirely possible to block a hit with say, a gauntlet. And shield bash and shield swipe still make technical sense, you're just smashing them in the face with your arm or pushing their weapon out of the way.

It can also be argued that the shield is still there, it's just invisible which would actually give it tactical advantages as the enemy would be caught off guard by thinking they're going to hit you and instead hitting an invisible wall.

I guess I'm personally for it. The main reason, and I'm sure most people's main reason, Lightning glamour looks weird with a shield since she didn't use one.

I'm all for it! It would totally look like I'm back hand slapping mobs all day. It would become my new go to threat combo macro'ed with a "Bish, please!"

It's an old story called the emperor's new clothes. Two con men basically sell an emperor nothing and tell him it's an amazing new robe, the emperor didn't want to look stupid so he says he can see it and it's amazing so he buys it and wears it in public (goes out naked) no one wants to question the emperor so everyone pretends he's wearing the amazing robe. It's not until a child sees him and laughs that everyone realises how ridiculous it all is.

I'd settle for an "invisible" shield that animated an energy shield when you pull it out, but then goes invisible when you sheath it. It's kind of what I was hoping the Padjal weapons would be.

There are times I've wanted an Emperor's Shield as well. The newly crafted Thordan Sword looks amazing but then it gets paired with a shield from Toys'R'Us. Or when an extremely cool, hard to obtain, well designed, Savage sword is paired with a silly buckler shield. If I remember correctly, Gladiators in 1.0 could opt to use a Sword-only style of combat if they wanted to increase their DPS. Or, equip a shield with a dps loss.

Though, with all of the emperor's stuff we've been getting, I wouldn't be surprised if Emperor's New Housing, and Emperor's New Marriage, show up in the next set of Emperor's New Patch Notes.
