    Squadrons confuse me

I cannot find any type of progression or a how to on getting my squadron started. I spoke to the NPC at GC got the first quest went into the room and that is as far as I can get...what am I missing? Is there a link to the quest lines, NPC quest givers etc?

You need 4 people to go on missions, do challenges to get a new recruit

you need to do challenges from your weekly challenge log, successful completing these gives you a chance of gaining 1 recruit. But as usual its RNG based, some people only finish one or two things to get new members, others run the whole log to get one lol. After you have recruited 4 people (total) you can train them and deploy them.

You start with 3 free recruits and need to get a 4th recruit from completing various challenges in your challenge log. Once you do so you can start training them and doing missions.

You can recruit up to 8 characters into your squadron at a time and each challenge you complete has a chance of a recruit appearing.

(step 1) Talk to the person at the GC counter to unlock the squadron feature and allow you to access the squadron room. (Sounds like you've done this part)
(step 2) Go into the squadron room and talk to the sergeant there. (I think it's twice, but at any rate talk to him as long as he has new things to say.) He'll suggest going out to recruit more members.
(step 3) Complete challenge log entries until you get a notice saying that a new recruit has applied to your squadron.
(step 4) Return to the squadron room, use the papers on the desk to review and accept your new recruit.
(step 5) Talk to the sergeant again and he'll have you send out your squadron on an initial 1 hour trial mission.
(step 6) Talk to him again an hour later and he'll explain training sessions and suggest you do one, so use the bulletin board to start your squad training. (This also lasts an hour.)
(step 7) An hour later, you'll be at the normal state, where you can either assign a 1 hour training session (by using the bulletin board) or 18 hour mission (by talking to the sergeant).

I suspect you're stuck at step 3. You start with just three members in your squad, but cannot send them out on missions until you have at least four members. So you need to complete enough challenge logs to get another member. (There's RNG involved in whether you actually get a new member or not, but it's fairly easy RNG, Somewhere around every 2 or 3 challenges you complete.)

I've also heard of people getting stuck because of step 2, though. No new recruits will show up until you've talked to the sergeant and had him explain it to you. That unlocks the change that challenge logs can gain you recruits.

On the off chance you haven't unlocked the challenge log...
I recall seeing a thread where this happened.

    It's a level 15ish quest in Limsa.
