(X,Y) should be simple and obvious but sometimes it's easy to reverse numbers without even trying. Even reading numbers I sometimes, inadvertently, switch 'em.

(Letter, Number) removes any ambiguity and even if transposed can still be read properly. It just makes it harder to screw up map locations.

Quite frankly, I'm fine with either method. Then again, I'm easy to please.
